Well, I moved up a notch or two in the hierarchy and gave Final Cut Express2 a try - didn't complain at all. Next step is to try the top o the line FinalCutPro-HD - if that doesn't flag anything then I would think the stream is fine (I haven't heard any audible signs of damage/corruption so far).
