  That's what I'm trying to find out. See Steve's reply about 
  the "wider" CCD. I guess I just need to find a high-end video
  store and ask them to tape a couple of secs. on their XL2.

  Very little. I'd like to look for suspicious flags that could hint
  about 24fps and see what ffmpeg DV can do about it. But that'll be
  pretty much reverse engineering -- that's why I need some samples.
