The 50_60 flag makes a *big* difference exporting to a Sony TRV103 NTSC camcorder, thank you Yamazaki and Dan. Changing the CIP timing to 1, 16 (ie 30.0 frames/sec) cleans out some block noise with that camcorder too. My camcorder now seems rock-solid on export with the 50_60 flag set correctly and the framerate at 30.0. Framerate at 29.97 gives an image but with periodic bursts of block noise, so this is certainly something that needs to be user settable for different equipment. It'd be nice to build up a database of which settings work best with which hardware. (And perhaps have the software default the settings based on the hardware IDs from polling the device.) The above successful testing was based on modifying dvconnect (in libdv) with the changes suggested for Kino -- I haven't tested the latter yet because of the required kernel module change. Thanks guys. -- Alastair |
