Hi Lance, The handouts mentioned were printoffs of the labs from the cisco material. As you go through the stuff there is an occasional icon for "Lab"---that's them. When you are ready for some tests just let me know. To avoid the irritating disabling of java when opening opera, you have to= edit=20 /usr/bin/opera with vi or emacs, and uncomment the lines about 2/3 of the= way=20 down, which says: # Uncomment the next lines to workaround the "preloaded libXt" problem. # LD_PRELOAD=3D"${OPERA_JAVA_DIR}/libawt.so" # OPERA_FORCE_JAVA_ENABLED=3D"1" # export LD_PRELOAD OPERA_FORCE_JAVA_ENABLED Opera should work better after this. Hello I have had problems starting on the weekend when trying to connect to the "cisco.netacad.net" site - it keep coming up with the following message: "This site is currently undergoing extended maintenance activities between the hours of 2:00 AM - 11:00 AM GMT." However talking to Cisco I found that I can get on using the "cisco.netacad.net/public" web page. I am curious to know if others have had the same difficulty or is it just me (or my computer or my ISP)... Exam Notes for Cisco CCNA Study Group 1 The CCNA course is covered by Cisco in four semesters which will be called "Parts" to prevent confusion (ie. Parts 1-4). The CCNA course will be covered by Geoffrey at TAFE over two semesters. Or in other words: TAFE Semester 1 - first 9 weeks - Part 1 TAFE Semester 1 - second 9 weeks - Part 2 TAFE Semester 2 - first 9 weeks - Part 3 TAFE Semester 2 - second 9 weeks - Part 4 The following are some notes on the exams schedule as I heard Geoffrey tell it... On-line exams =========== Geoffrey will be attempting to enable Chapter exams (computer - multiple choice) on the Cisco web site (if it is not down for maintenance) for the following periods: noon Wednesday - noon Thursday noon Friday - noon Saturday Class Chapter exams ================ Expect at least one Chapter exam (written - multiple choice - closed book) to be given during every TAFE class period - there are a total of 15 Chapters to be done by the end of week 8 (and as of March 3rd. we can have done Chapters 1,2 and 5)! These will have a greater weighting then then on-line exams since they will be definately closed book. Class 'Part' Final Exam ================= The Final exam (written - multiple choice - closed book) for the first part of the CCNA course will be held in class during week 9. I gather there will be a 'practice' exam preceeding in (week 8?). The pass mark is around 70% which if met will entitle you to a Cisco voucher. Then what? ========= For the remaining 9 weeks of Semester 1 the next part of the CCNA course will be covered and a Final exam given in Week 18. Semester 2 will be like Semester 1 (Parts 3 and 4 done). Cisco CCNA Exam =============== After surviving TAFE Semesters 1 and 2 (Ciscos parts 1-4) one should be ready to sit for the actual CCNA exam (written - multiple choice - closed book) at an approved testing center ($100 US). The pass mark for this exam is around 85%. I gather that by this stage if one has passed the four 'finals' given during the TAFE classes this will result in a discount.
