Hi all! I'm a fresh user of a LCD4linux ;) However, i can't find a information about multiscreen support (like in smarty in windows). Multi screen i mean that display shows 1 layout, then after few sec changes into other. Oh, and also, is it possible to show something wich i type into a console? (by some lcd4linux parameter, i don't really know what is a -c parameter stand for?) -- Michał Obrembski |

Hello Everyone, I'm looking for some advice on my current project. I apologize for the long post, but I want to make sure my assumptions are correct as well, so I'm being a bit more verbose. I'm currently working on my carputer project. My plan involves gutting a 2 DIN factory radio from my car and building a carputer into the empty shell. Since I plan to have a 7" lcd mounted on my dash, I want to use either a 20x2+24x2 or a 20x4 display in the radio case itself. I want to make use of the existing buttons in the face, 6 of which are lighted buttons which I will be toggling through the use of GPOs or similar. I will have at least 6 more indicator lights which I would like to toggle through GPOs, plus possible potentiometer and/or switch inputs. If I can, I'd like to simplify the interface between the computer and the entire front display panel so I'm using only one connection between computer and front panel. This probably won't happen, but it's still one of my goals. My current idea involves building something around two HD44780s. If I understand everything correctly, there are 5 pins available on the parallel port that can be switched high/low, allowing us to address 5 devices on the same bus. Two would be used for the HD44780s, leaving 1 for backlight control, and two left available. I want to use two 74DC573N ICs to give myself a total of 16 GPIOs. 16 should be plenty for what I'm doing, and on a hardware level I don't see why this wouldn't work. Can someone verify that what I want to solder up is possible? This also leaves me with no way to do keypad input. However, it seems like the displays that have supported keypads do not have any GPIOs. I can build something outside of lcd4linux to handle that, but if anyone knows of a display with keypad pins (supported or not, I can hack in support) and a large number of GPOs I'd love to hear about it. This leaves the software part. From what I can tell, it seems that lcd4linux is limited to addressing a single GPIO per parallel port. Would the ability to address more than 8 GPIOs be something that interests anyone else? If so I'll post it as a feature request. Finally, is there some other way to do all this I might have missed? It seems like I can either have a keypad, or I can have a large number of GPIOs. Given that choice I'll go for the GPIOs. -Zach |

To be honest: I don't really understand yet why I should need a VCS - There's no real code to have control over, only the debian control files which imho don't really need version control... Or does bazaar do more than just version control and I did not read about it yet? :) |

I already have built a serdisplib package by hand (useful to understand the system, but it must be a pain to do this for really big projects...), but didn't test it yet. Installing it on my production (sidux) box seems too risky to me, but I have set up a minimal debian etch installation in qemu to try it. And there's also a mail sent out to Mr. Astleitner, the serdisplib dev, (probably you know each other?) to inform him about this package, but he didn't answer yet. I'm willing to maintain the package, using some version control is a good idea. :) Going to read some bzr documentation later. |

You are right: the operators '==' and '<>' are working on numbers only (same as it is in Perl) Adding 'perlish' string tests 'eq' and 'ne' isn't that easy, for the evaluator does not support alphanumeric operator tokens. Hmmm.... any ideas anyone? Hi all, I'm new to the list. I would like to be able to set a certain icon 'visible' if Xmms is playing, stopped or paused. The Xmms plugin provide gather this information as strings 'Playing', 'Stopped' or 'Paused' from a text file xmms-info. In my example, visible xmms(Status)=='Playing'?0:1 desn't work: the conditional test 'a'=='b'?0:1 desn't seem to work if 'a' and 'b' are strings. A try to affect values to variables calls Playing or stopped, with no results either. Any ideas? |

So here I'm back with svn code from ... about 5 minutes ago. Trying to open my c't-includ usb display using the serdisplib (with libusb-support) driver. I call lcd4linux like this: $ ./lcd4linux -Ff ~/lcd4tanu.conf serdisplib: open(07c0:1501) failed: This _is_ the complete output, there's no error message. lsusb looks like this: marcel@d-wwow:~/Desktop/lcd4linux$ sudo lsusb Bus 005 Device 005: ID 05ac:1204 **** Bus 005 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 001 Device 015: ID 03f0:b802 **** Bus 001 Device 013: ID 2001:3700 **** Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 004 Device 004: ID 07c0:1501 Code Mercenaries Hard- und Software GmbH IO-Warrior 24 Bus 004 Device 003: ID 04a9:220d **** Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 002 Device 002: ID 046d:c01e **** Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 (I removed all other device names) This is my Display section: Display TanuDisp { Driver 'serdisplib' Model 'CTINCLUD' Size '128x64' Port '07c0:1501' } Should work like this, shouldn't it? :) Marcel |

Seems to work here with a very minimalistic test config, but I'm writing this here instead of mailing it to the bugtracker because I would really like to have a serdisplib driver compiled in, but the 0.10.1-RC2 source from the wiki doesn't compile here. (Most likely the error the fix you mentioned fixed.) Does something really speak against building the "default" debian package with serdisplib support? Or would it be best if I downloaded the most recent source from the repository and build it? Hey LCD4Linux fans, I finally got around to apply Michael's rdtsc fix for the debian package. Unfortunately, after my notebook upgrade, my usb lcd device stopped working, I assume it is not the device's fault, but something in my 2.6.22 kernel. Anyway, I cannot really test the package, so I uploaded it to http://siretart.tauware.de/upload-queue first. Could please someone test that package and mail success or error reports to 43...@bu...? Because if you cant disregard the ' I cant think of a way to make it still work with providing my command via the -c option :/ So long |

I think the Pertelian driver is only available in the SVN version of lcd4linux. So please install a Subversion client (usually called "svn") and follow the instructions on the download page....
