Hi Michael, I think I find the problem, replace AC_MSG_ERROR by AC_MSG_WARN the problem still exist until I chnage default value to 'no' in configure driver select session. That in 'configure', line 5341. I can compile right now, I'm running lcd4linux and modify a lcd4linux.conf, but the process just exit, nothing to do. Does something wrong?? Thanks a lot. The bad news is: There is no such option. It's the first time I hear of a HD66712. No for the good news: I can try to add support for this chip. The change in adressing mode seems quite minimalistic. As I don't have such a display, wou'll have to help me by testing and debugging the driver. I don't like to add this code to the "old" lcd4linux driver, but to the current CVS version. This version will be called 0.10.0, the change in version number already indicates that there are big changes going on: In fact, the config file differs very very much. I will download and print the datasheed from the HD66712 first, just to make shure that there are no other changes to the HD44780 driver. In the meantime, you could try to get familiar with the lcd4linux-CVS. If you need assistance with CVS, let me know. bye, Michael -- Michael Reinelt Tel: +43 676 3079941 Geisslergasse 4 Fax: +43 316 692343 A-8045 Graz, Austria e-mail: re...@eu... |

Hi Benjamin, > Now here are my lcd4linux.conf and the outputs of "lcd4linux -Fvvq". Please, PLEASE, never NEVER send configs, logfiles etc. as HTML!!!! It took me half an hour to extract the real content! Just to tell you that everything looks fine. There may be several reasons: - a wiring fault (you cannot check your wiring often enough :-) - a timing problem (hard to find) - a level problem - a defect display Does the display work with some other software? Maybe with W*ndows? I had some problems with T6963 displays in the past, they really want a high level of +5V on the interface, where most modern parallel ports work on a 3.3V basis. bye, Michael -- Michael Reinelt Tel: +43 676 3079941 Geisslergasse 4 Fax: +43 316 692343 A-8045 Graz, Austria e-mail: re...@eu... |

Hello, I bought an HD66712 at kernelconcepts.de which follows the winamp scheme (http://www.kernelconcepts.de/products/lcd-wiring-new.gif). But I continue to have problems getting the expected results: I specified in /etc/lcd4linux.conf : Display HD44780 Port /dev/parports/0 Size 20x4 #Delay 503 Bits 8 Wire.RW "AUTOFD" Wire.RS "INIT" Wire.ENABLE "STROBE" Wire.GPO "GND" Row1 "* My Linux Server *" Row2 "%p CPU %r MB RAM" Row3 "Busy %cb%%" Row4 "Load%l1%L" Row5 "" Rot6 "" Row7 "Zeile Sieben" Row8 "Zeile Acht" But I get something similar to this ,Server * Zeile Sieb erver * Busy 0% eile Acht1 MB RAM 1 MB RAMLoad 0.00 (note that Row 7 and 8 are "drawn" although they shouldn't - display is 20x4) I already did some testings as well as google-research and found out the reason is that the HD44780 uses a different adress mapping than my HD44612. The fli4l driver (http://sourceforge.net/projects/lcd or http://www.kernelconcepts.de/products/lcd.tar.gz) has an option "a_type=1" to handle this but I don't know to specify this one in lcd4linux. Sadly I'm out of ideas how to solve the problem and hope that anybody of you has a solution. Thanks in advance, Helge Jung -- CityMaxx24 Development Team http://www.citymaxx24.de/ |

Michael, The controller is a Phillips P87c52. It also has two OKI 8382532 which I assume are memory chips. Isn't it likely to use +5v as power? Presumably if I identify ground, which shouldn't be too difficult, I could then apply +5V to the other pins to see which seems to be for power. Or would doing this potentially fry my chips? There are specs available for other VFD's in the M202 series, but not for this model, presumably because it was a custom design for IBM. The M202SD08 display uses 5V power but is parallel (see http://mem.tcon.net/users/5010/5491/vfd.htm). IBM uses a standard serial controller to drive the device from the Pc end (the SureOne is a Pc with a Via C3 chip and Windows OS), so I would expect the cable to be similar to a standard RS-232 one. The following seems to be the common layout for an 8 pin serial cable, but this doesn't account for power. The SureOne technical documentation gives pinouts for all the other connectors, including both unpowered and powered serial connectors but omits the VFD display connector. 1) DSR 2) DCD 3) DTR 4) SG 5) RD 6) TD 7) CTS 8) RTS thanks, Andrew ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael Reinelt" <re...@eu...> To: "Andrew Chapman" <and...@bi...> Cc: "lcd4linux-users" <lcd...@li...> Sent: Friday, March 12, 2004 9:04 AM Subject: Re: [lcd4linux] Futaba VFD with phone jack connector > Hi Andrew, > > > Has anyone managed to use a Futaba VFD, M202MD10AA? Can you see which chips are on the device? As it's a serial device, the beast must consist of two logical parts: the LCD controller itself (which has for shure a microcontroller interface, and not a serial one), and a microcontroller, which handles the serial protocol. Is there a backlight? If so, it would be easy to find out at least these pins. Maybe this is the power for the rest of the display, too. Do you have access to such a POS machine? Has anyone managed to use a Futaba VFD, M202MD10AA? It is from an IBM SureOne POS machine and has a 8 pin phone-type jack connector. The cable and connector seem to be a one-off for this machine as far as I can tell. I can't find any documentation for the connector other than that it is serial, 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 2 stop bits. Without knowing which pins are which, it is a bit difficult to try it out. The display has no power connector so must also be powered through the serial connector too. Any suggestions for how to connect this or test the pinouts? thanks, Andrew Chapman ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael Reinelt" <re...@eu...> To: "Benjamin Eichhorn" <big...@we...> Cc: "lcd4linux-users" <lcd...@li...> Sent: Friday, March 12, 2004 5:26 AM Subject: [lcd4linux] Re: M50530 > Hi Benjamin, > > > I got an 24x8 LCD with an Mitsuibishi M50530 display controller and tried to get > > it to work with lcd4linux. > > > > By starting up the display shows to black rows, one on the upper and one in the > > middle of the screen. Question to the development team: where shoud this code be added again?=20 In 0.9.11 this has been in the parser, along with the Token handling.=20 There is no such thing anymore. We could add it to the config code, so the program would never see the=20 "real" backslash sequence, but always the correct ascii value. Or we could add this to the widget code, so internally the program would=20 work with the backslash sequences, and convert them to one single ascii=20 value when displaying it. The second has one big disadvantage: length calculations will fail. bye, Michael --=20 Michael Reinelt Tel: +43 676 3079941 Geisslergasse 4 Fax: +43 316 692343 A-8045 Graz, Austria e-mail: re...@eu... |

I've try writing only the = slash, and I get the same strange character. It works fine with v0.9.11 but it doen't do with CVS :( Any idea? Thanks in advice. Javier. |

Hi Stolz, > I'm using the CVS version of lcd4linux. > I want to write on LCD the > Celsius (=BA) character, (which has the 8 bits code 1101 1111) as the > postfix of my Temp Widget. How can I do it? Specify the ascii code as octal after a backslash. In your example, 11011111 is decimal 223 or octal 337. Try a Postfix of=20 '\337' As for your other questions: > I've upgraded my lcd4linux to the CVS version, but the > config file has changed a lot ;) It has, indeed :-) > Where can I find a sort explanation about all the 'fields' > than I can use in the Widget struct, and what values do they > accept? I'm afraid there is none at the moment. To get just a list of all=20 possible entries, do a 'grep cfg_ widget_*.c' > but I'm not sure about using the others fields, specially the > field 'expresion', and I don't know if the above arguments > are all those fields support. An expression is, as the name implies, an expression :-) you can specify a (static) string by enclsoing it inside singel quotes=20 (e.g. 'this is a string') But you can use any (mathematical and string) expression you like, as in 2*3+4 or strlen(cfg('Display')) or cpu('busy', 500) all of the 'functions' have been registered as so called 'plugins'. I'm=20 afraid there is no up-to-date list of plugins and/or functions, too. So the only possibility at the moment would be UTSL. The current CVS code should be released as 0.10.0 in a few weeks, until=20 then there will be documentation. --=20 Michael Reinelt Tel: +43 676 3079941 Geisslergasse 4 Fax: +43 316 692343 A-8045 Graz, Austria e-mail: re...@eu... |

Hi. I'm using the CVS version of lcd4linux. I want to write on LCD the Celsius (=BA) character, (which has the 8 bits c= ode 1101 1111) as the postfix of my Temp Widget. How can I do it? Thanks in advice. Stolz |

Yes, this is already working, but not released yet. Feel free to test the CVS version! I'd really like to use my 4-line LCD on my firewall to show one graph for each of the 3 nics, and maybe 1 for the total. Thanks, Barry |
