Hello Jerry, hello list ! =20 > Nod. I have converted my original man page over to docbook. I've been > meaning to work more on the conversion to html. In fact, I d=E0on't think manpage must be necessarily ported to xslt and friends, as the online documentation won't be just this, but an explanation page for each driver and plugin, and 'general' docs about layout and configuration.=20 But we may include the manpage somewhere too. > I agree that XSLT is easier to use than dsssl and think it would be=20 > a better choice to transform the docbook source to html. In fact, our use of XSLT (as I see it in my mind) is writing xhtml pages with tags like <conf></conf>, <code></code> which will be replaced by the apropriate xhtml/css code. The page should just describe the body and the rest (head, menus, ...) would be generated by the stylesheet. So, in this case we can use two stylesheets : one for the online doc (including php code for the menus, ...) and one for documentation in the tarball with a little menu and summary. > > So, then I found the logidee-tools. I know the documentation is in french only, but I just mentionned it, we can't use the stylesheets as is, I'll write others myself, based on the good ideas these guys put in there. > Do you want the documentation that is in (X)html format to be only html, > or do you need to have php source in them so that they integrate with > the rest of the website? Both, read at the beginning. This is why xslt is a good choice IMHO, as we can generate both static XHTML and PHP with two stylesheets. Bye ! --=20 Xavier VELLO |

Hello Matt ! > I don't know if this is the correct mail address, or if their is a forum I can visit, but I am having a few problems with lcd4linux. In fact, there are two lists for lcd4linux : lcd...@li... for user questions (and support) and lcd...@li... for developers discussions and support about CVS version (which will become 0.10.0 version soon). You should have posted to lcd4linux-users, but for this issue let's continue in this one. > I have a PowerTip PC1604 display. The top two lines display ok, but the botton 2 lines are indented by 4characters. > I don't supose you know why this could happen. Err... can you elaborate ? What is this Powertip display ? Is it HD44780-based ? Which size is it ? We can't know all display favours, especially HD44780 ones, please give more details. Moreover, you may think about using the CVS 'NextGeneration' lcd4linux as there are a lot of bugfixing for all drivers and a new layout, and old generation (up to 0.9.12) won't be upgrated. Bye ! ======= Xavier VELLO |

Hi I don't know if this is the correct mail address, or if their is a forum I can visit, but I am having a few problems with lcd4linux. I have a PowerTip PC1604 display. Hi Xavier, I played around with the docbook source and got it to export to html using xsl. Is this what you were looking for? See: http://www.thegeeks.net/~yello/lcd4linux.html <-- html http://www.thegeeks.net/~yello/lcd4linux.sgml <-- docbook source http://www.thegeeks.net/~yello/lcd4linux.1 <-- man page Technically the .sgml file is now xml as well... The command line I used to generate the html was: xsltproc /usr/share/xml/docbook/stylesheet/nwalsh/html/docbook.xsl \ lcd4linux.sgml > lcd4linux.html I had to install the xsltproc and docbook-xsl packages in order to do this. Since there is no documentation written in English, it leaves english-only speakers such as myself in the dark. You would have to do it all... Is the logidee package simply a set of XSLT transforms, or is there more to it? Hello list ! (Jerry, I put you in CC in case you weren't in the list) While browsing blogs, I found a discussion about php versus xslt versus m4 versus docbook versus Perl ... on how to automatically generate html pages with scripts, and I remembered our little project (which seems sleeping this month). I don't renounce to php, don't panic ;) But there was the problem of documentation. Somebody (me ?) proposed to look at docbook, but it's definitely too hard for me to create dsssl stylesheets, and moreover my docbook installation seems broken :/ Another solution was to use XML stylesheets with docbook, but the situation is even worse in my poor woody. A good solution appeared to me : XSLT. Don't rush on google.[fr|at|com|de|...] and read more : XSLT works with a xml document containing the text and some markup and a xsl stylesheet, which defines how to do the transfomation from xml to whatever other markup language (in our case, xhtml). The best (most complete) xslt processor seems to be xsltproc and it does very well its job. So, then I found the logidee-tools. It's avaible at www.logidee.com/tools/ or in a debian package for the power users ;). It's a compilation of stylesheets and make scripts to write courses and publish them in html or pdf/ps (via LaTeX). And it's written by two frenchies ;) We can't use the stylesheets as is, but I'll be easy to adapt them to our needs (one for the website, another for documentation in the tarball). I'll try work on it soon, but I have to go back to school tomorrow :( Bye ! -------- Xavier VELLO |

Hello Marco ! In fact, the problem is that I reworked the autoconf/automake stuff and that Michael, the main developper forgot to add the files drivers.m4 and plugins.m4 to the CVS repository. Michael : please commit drivers.m4 and plugins.m4 as soon as possible ! Marco : - I'm sending you these two files in private mail, copy them in the lcd4linux folder and run ./bootstrap, and then configure. - You can now choose the plugins you want with the --with-plugins switch if you want - If you're interested on sensors, I'm the author of the plugin. REad the source (plugin_i2c_sensors.c) from instructions on how to use it. Bye ! ---- Xavier VELLO |

Hello Michael, hello list ! I modified deeply the autoconf/automake stuff to be able to choose the plugins we want, just as drivers : - first, I did some cleanup and moved drivers stuff to drivers.m4, and created plugins.m4 to handle plugins stuff - there's a new configure switch : --with-plugins, which should work as --with-drivers (as I copied a lot of code), but strangely all,!a_plugin doesn't work ! I have to work though it tomorrow. - I modified plugin.c in the same fashion as drv.c, and it initializes just the plugins whose WITH_... config.h option as on. - Here are the advantages : * mysql plugin works out of the box, as it's possible to add libraries (PLUGINLIBS, just as DRVLIBS), and it's possible to checks headers/libs to activate a plugin (dvb/ppp/mysql for the moment, I must add wireless) * one can choose the plugins he wants to avoid silly error messages (think i2c_sensors Martin :) ) or reduce memory footprint. * the configure stuff will be ready for dynamic loading ;) * it's more professional ;) Michael, check it and put it in CVS. And as usual, testing is welcomed ! Bye ! ---- Xavier VELLO <xav...@fr...> |

Yeah, I think the startup delay should be a config option... Also, I was looking at the little readme card that came with the display... apparently it can do things like display a factory logo or a custom logo on initialization, for 5 seconds. It's supposed to reset itself if you send data during the 5 seconds, but mine doesn't. Mine doesn't show a logo either. There are apparently commands for re-programming some of these features in flashROM but I'd rather not mess with it, as I'm not sure what I'm doing, and it says if you overflow the buffer it'll hose the ROM. Thanks, Barry At 04:36 AM 4/8/2004, you wrote: >Hi Barry, > >>Hi, in 0.98, I had to add a 5.0second sleep to the CrystalFontz.c driver. >>Otherwise the display never initializes correctly. >>In the current CVS version, I've had to do it again. >>Line 675: >> // Fixme: why such a large delay? >> usleep(350*1000); >>sleep(5); // needed for 634 V2.0 > >Right. Hi Javi, > While the official e-mail plugin is been ported to N.G, I've wrote my own simple mail plugin, based on the "pop3check" code from http://sourceforge.net/projects/pop3check. > It only supports POP3, but I've spent more time writing it than I spent writing MySQL's one :0 Look great! But I'd suggest some changes: - move the plugin_init and _exit functions to the bottom of the plugin (so they are easier to find) - move the call to getConfig() out of the init() function, into the data fetch function, but call it only once on the first turn, so the init() function does nothing but register the function (same as for the i2c_sensors plugin) - rename the function from POP3check to Mailbox (??) - use a slightly differen config layout: Mailbox 'Private' { server 'localhost' port 110 user 'me' pass 'dontknow' } Mailbox 'Business' { server 'mail.company.com' user 'me_again' pass 'forgotten' } Widget Email { class 'Text' expression Mailbox('Private') } This way the #define MAX_NUM_ACCOUNTS 3 could go away... - most important thing: make it asynchronous! Take a look at the plugin_exec. But beware: The code isn't that clean by now... bye, Michael -- Michael Reinelt Tel: +43 676 3079941 Geisslergasse 4 Fax: +43 316 692343 A-8045 Graz, Austria e-mail: re...@eu... |

Just replace your expression netdev(something) with expression (ln(netdev()) or expression (log(netdev()) There's no need for scaling it afterwards, because here the auto-scale becomes handy :-) > 3. Hi, I'm using LCD4Linux (from CVS) on my firewall, and enjoy the network graphs on my CF 634. However, I notice the graphs will auto-scale to larger speeds, but then they never scale back down. e.g.: starting out, I have 0kbps traffic I generate 2KBps traffic, and the graphs work great. Then, I generate 5MBps traffic (FTP transfer over 100Mbps ethernet), and they still work (all the way to the right). After that, nothing less than about 150KBps will register on the graph at all, unless I restart LCD4Linux. Desired behavior(s): 1. Auto-downscaling. e.g. decrement the max over time so the graphs auto-shrink in scale, so smaller rates begin showing up on the graph again. 2. I have a 3com OfficeConnect 10/100 hub which has (roughly) a logarithmic utilization scale: 0.1 - 1.0% 2% 3% 6% 12% 25% 50% 80% I think it would be helpful if the netgraphs could be scaled this way. 3. My internet connection is a cable modem... 3000kbps IN, 256kbps OUT; I'd like the outgoing part of the graph to scale correctly to 256kbps... perhaps that could be a configuration specification, or maybe it could be achieved though auto shrinking too. I'm willing to work on at least 1 & 2 myself, however I haven't been able to figure out where in the code the scaling or tracking of the max values is being done. Can someone fill me in on this? Thanks, Barry Gould |

Hi. If you have MySQL installed, you can compile lcd4linux with MySQL support b= y that way: #./configure #make [make will fail: edit Makefile and replace CC =3D gcc=20 in favour of CC =3D gcc -lmysqlclient save Makefile] #make [if make fails again, repeat: edit Makefile and replace CC =3D gcc=20 in favour of CC =3D gcc -lmysqlclient save Makefile] Hope tha it helps. Hi Xavier, Thanks for responding. I'm not sure what you are saying to do, but I'll try removing the mysql headers and compiling again. (I already tried commenting the mysql driver out of Makefile.am, but then it got errors on plugins.c or something like that.) OK, looks like it compiles now (without the mysql headers installed). Hi all. While the official e-mail plugin is been ported to N.G, I've wrote my own simple mail plugin, based on the "pop3check" code from http://sourceforge.net/projects/pop3check. It only supports POP3, but I've spent more time writing it than I spent writing MySQL's one :0 For it to work, I just added to my lcd4linux.conf: Plugin mail{ server1 ''foo.server1.com user1 'foo1' password1 'secret1' #port is optional, if none specified 110 will be used port1 110 server2 ''foo.server2.com user2 'foo2' password2 'secret2' port2 110 #etc... } #To get Account1 num. of mails: Widget Email { class 'Text' expression getMail(1) prefix 'mail' width 8 precision 0 align 'R' update minute } POP3 accounts are stored dinamically, so you can use as much accounts as you want, just edit source code and change "#define MAX_NUM_ACCOUNTS 3" Hope it helps someone till official pluging will be released :) B.R Javi. |

Well, I'm not the most indicated person to answer because I only participat= e in the MySQL plugin since few weeks ago, but you should know the CVS version (aka "Next Generation") has been rewro= ted from scratch (correct me if I'm wrong) so it is relatively recent, and may be, there are lots of features that have n= ot been ported yet. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I just tried out the CVS since another user were asking about the mysql plugin, and it seems nice because the bars display for the CrystalFontz now works properly. However, I used to do lcd4linux -q -c Backlight=0 -c Contrast=0 to clear the screen on my lcd4linux shutdown script on gentoo linux. It seems the CVS doesn't work anymore with -c Blacklight=0 and etc... I do however have a work around which is to do "-f another.conf" so that in that "another.conf" file i would set the display ... { Contrast=0 and Backlight=0 } But it'd be nice if the command line option works properly or maybe the format of [-c key=val] changed on he CVS and I don't know how to use it. ^^! Just wondering if anyone have any info on this, or maybe i missed similar post(s) on the mailing list archive ... couldn't find info on the new format if there is a new format that is ~~. I know the Clear() function isn't implemented yet as mentioned by someone else earlier. But just wondering if anything happened with the command line options.
