When encoding, my system hangs. Complete freeze, no reponse
what so ever. It needs a complete cold boot.
I've used several versions of notlame, on two desktops and a
laptop. No problems on the IBM Thinkpad T23 (P-III 1GHz), nor
on the Compaq Deskpro EP 350 (P-II 350 MHz).
But my main system frequently - allmost allways - hangs in the
middle of compression. The system is an AMD Athlon XP 1800+
It happens under both SuSE 8.2 and SuSE 9.1. (seperate
installs on that machine)
Notlame 3.92 (I've used 3.96 also, same problem)
This is the error msg I finally captured:
--------Quote ---------------
- find: notlame terminated by signal 11
inconsistency detected by ld.so:
../sysdeps/i386/dl_machine.h:611 elf_machine_rel_relative:
Assertion `((reloc-r_info) & 0xff)==8` failed !
--------Unquote -------------
Is there a compatibility problem with the CPU make? Does
NotLame use (multimedia)functions that are specific to the Intel
Pentiums ? Or should I look elsewhere for the source of these
incidents?

Mmm. Not convinced.
It's one of the first thing my brother and me tought about: a memory
problem or equivalent.
But this machine had another CPU (on another MB with other RAM)
before we put in the Athlon. The old one was an AMD Duron, and the
problems were identical. And the 2 versions of SuSE run of partition on
different disks. Well, we'll try to run a few more tests. Thanks anyway.
