This is not a matter of just putting the UMLS data files somewhere on the system but actually installing the UMLS system in a MySQL database. NLM provides a tool called MetamorphoSys which can generate the MySQL load scripts, the scripts then need to be executed, this will take day+ to perform. Once installed the the validator can be configured by uncommenting the umls sections in the laika-data.xml file located in the WEB-INF directory and setting the correct database parameters in the same file.
