Unable to enter KDE after upgrade from 1.3 to 1.4

Today I decided to upgrade KWheezy 1.3 to 1.4. I did as instructed and then clicked the "default profile" and then the "user profile" in the Profiler to activate them. I shutdown and restarted the computer and I got to the login screen and put in my password. The next screen loads the HDD icon but goes no further.The other 3 or 4 icons never show up and the HDD activity light flickers continuously but nothing further happens. What can I do to get the Kde desktop to load. I have done some research, but find nothing that is helpful. Is there a solution to this problem? Thank you.

Hi Hermie, not sure what you mean by upgrade to 1.4. Upgrading to 1.4 should have happened as soon as you did a regular update. Either with apper or apt-get update/upgrade. Unless you haven't upgraded packages since Novemeber last year, you should have already been on 1.4. When you say "as instructed", please refer to those instructions, it's been a while now since 1.4 was released.
Nevertheless, If you upgraded via package upgrade, you shouldn't have KDE profile problems. You don't have to use Profiler to upgrade, but if you want the minor improvements introduced in 1.4 you can. I'm not sure what you mean by "user profile". There is only 3 things you can do in Profiler: (i) restore the Kwheezy Defaults, (ii) save your own profile settings and (iii) restore your own profile settings. It's not clear from your post what you were trying to do.
If you did a fresh install and tried to get back your old home folder, that's a different story.
Did you change anything else, the video driver could effect the login process.
Oh wait, I remember now. It can behave strange after restoring the Kwheezy Deafaults. It sometimes takes a long time, but eventually completes login. If it doesn't move after 30 minutes, then reboot. It logs in normally after that. Or at least in my experience. I find it better to save your own profile and restore it later. The delayed login issue doesn't happen with a saved profile. The Kwheezy deafults is different because I put a pre-login script to size the panel etc nicely and it doesn't know your screen size yet. It seem to happen to some graphics cards, not others. But like I said, second login attempt is fine.
If still not working, give more info and let me know.In mean-time you can login to administrator and type 'kdesudo dolphin' to get access to you files. If that doesn't work try 'sudo dolphin'.
I believe what happened is what you explain in the next to last paragraph. After a long wait and unplugging my machine, KWheezy booted normally after I restarted. It seems I got confused on how to use the Profiler and the upgrade process.Thank you for your help.

I may be making a version 1.5 soon. Provided you're happy with how everything works, ther'll be no need to do a fresh install. Just keep updating via apper / apt-get.
The changes are usually just for (i) tweaking the user profile for a slightly better out-the-box experience, (ii) installer improvement / bug fixes and (iii) updated to the latest wheezy bits, thus saving downloading lots of updates after a fresh install.
The only real improvemnets worth having are the Kwheezy tools which update automatically through apt.
