This is a known issue. Basically Googles support for Linux with regards to Google Earth is a bit shabby to say the least. When I released Kwheezy 1.0, I tried many different version of Google Earth, the version in Kwheezy currently is the best I could find. Version 7 didn't work at all on any of my PCs (mostly nvidia). I have planned to check back soon and if version 7 works I'll update in repo.
Can you tell me if the latest version 7 works for you. The globe wasn't working (all black). OpenGL was borked. I don't know why they even released it since most people found it unusable.

Excellent news! I just tested it on my nvidia proprietary machine and it works great so far. That problem before has gone
If it works OK on my nouveau and intel machines, I'll probably put it in the repo.
This would be great because the version 7 uses modern Qt and it looks way better. :-)

Works good in nouveau. looks like Google finally fixed the opengl stack.
If you need it in a hurry just download from google website and install. It's very easy to install, all dependencies are in place.
