It drops root permissions for security reasons at startup, but it can regain root when needed. If you don't start kreatecd with suid-root you'll have to use kdesu or similar - in that case the whole application runs in root mode. I would prefer a suid-root executable that can only be executed by a special group if you need access restrictions to the burner at all.
