-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Having just found the mailing list for kreatecd and then subscribing, I thought I would make a few comments about usability issues that I have found. My previous cd burning experience has been using Easy-CD Creator under Windows, and since switching to linux some 18 months ago, my pile of files needing archive to CD had been growing whilst I figures out how to burn some CD. I came across kcreateCD and immediately started to release the backlog. The comments I have below are made in the spirit of trying to help a good programme get better. I would eventually like to help with coding, but at the moment I am not making much progress on my own personal project to improve another area so it will be a little time before I can be more constructive than just giving some ideas. Issues that I've had a) When starting up kcreate scans the scsi bus looking for my cd-r. For some reason it takes thirty seconds to complete (this is not just kreatecd - linux does the same when booting - I presume its not finding something). This long delay is annoying and I am not sure its necessary as you do it again just before starting a burn b) when starting up it tells me that it hasn't got paths for all the helper programs it needs. If I select the option of going to the dialog box to find them the options are all greyed out (actually they are not greyed out if you happen to be logged in as root when you run kreatecd). I tried manually filling in the filenames in ~/.kde/share/config/kreatecdrc in the [path] section but this doesn't seem to effect the contents of the paths dialog box c) Having burnt a cd and fixated the session, I want to add more files to the disk. In easy-CD creator I could import the directory from a previous session and then add the new files to it. There doesn't seem to be an option to do this in kreatecd. d) When running with the Data-CD screen, it would be much more convenient to be able to select multiple lines (shift click to extend and fill in, ctrl click to add the single new line to the current selection). This applies to both panes. e) When deleting an entry in the right hand pane, the selection point jumps from the deleted entry to the top of the tree. This is extremely annoying if trying to delete multiple entries (especially because the lack of d) ). It would be better if it went to the line below that has just moved up. f) There is no way to move things about in the hierarchy of the right hand pane so if you happen to accidentally drop it into the wrong place you have to delete and drop again. I hope these comments are useful. - -- Alan - al...@ch... http://www.chandlerfamily.org.uk -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE8UfqY1mf3M5ZDr2kRAi2zAJ47EN+48xcUlSm0yvxLqvJx3LgNcwCgpN6t MuVwZpgf3gFuBzibCizU/7Q= =ojr8 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |
