[Kprof-users] Why does configure ignore --prefix=/opt/kde3 and fail?

Hello,

Is there a bug in configure? If not, then why does configure
ignore --prefix=/opt/kde3 and fail?

Specifically: ./configure --prefix=/opt/kde3 does not result in configure
believing that I do indeed have kde3 installed at /opt/kde3. What gives?
