Letting you know I've just run it on FreeBSD 6.0 and it seems to work fine making patterns for apache icons :-)
There's no PIL package as such, you get it by installing the py-imaging package, and of course python.
Either change the path to python in the first line of the script, or just type python before the script filename.
Thanks for thinking of us knitters. It's only taken three decades or so :-)
I'm sorry but I have never heard of any if the things you mentioned.
