I've been using Google Sync Plugin 2.0.0 for months with no problem, and today it started throwing this error when trying to sync:

    Web request to 'https://accounts.google.com/o/oauth2/token' failed

I tried upgrading to 2.1.1, but it still fails to synchronize with the same error. I haven't touched the plugin config since I first set it up, so I'm thinking something changed on Google's end. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Do you (now) need a proxy server?

If I remember correctly, there was a problem with (forced) proxy servers and authentication. It should work if your IE settings are set up correctly, but you might want to search through the forum and/or google for the keywords ".Net" and "proxy". There was some solution that involved editing the .Net "KeePass.exe.config" Config file in your KeePass directory.

Thanks for that link. I can get some external pages to load in IE but nothing from Google, so I got stuck troubleshooting that. I've tried so many different "fixes" over the last two hours -- including a full reset -- that I've lost count. I have a vague recollection of the ancient version of Chrome I was clinging to exhibiting similar behavior back when sites started upgrading some component of secure connections (SSL? TLS? Pardon my lack of memory and/or technical knowledge!), so I have the sinking feeling that it boils down to desperately hanging onto WinXP and using IE (8) only when forced. If you know of anything else to try besides "upgrade your OS", I'd be happy to hear it. Thanks again!

What happens when you try to load Google webpages in IE? What's the error message?
Do other browsers work, like Chrome or Firefox?
Are you sure your system is free of malware, spyware and viruses? Some of those might try to intercept your google traffic to e.g. serve their ads instead of Googles.
Is there a (company) firewall trying to intercept SSL/TLS traffic?

If I type "google.com" into the address bar in Firefox, I'm successfully redirected to https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl and can proceed with a search. When I type the same thing into IE8, I get the page shown in the attached screenshot. If I copy the secure URL from FF and paste it into IE, I get no redirect and an identical error page. I can also get to a variety of other pages just fine -- I've tried Yahoo, MSN, Facebook, eBay, National Weather Service (weather.gov), The Weather Channel (weather.com) -- though occasionally with "unsupported browser" warnings. If I go straight to amazon.com, I get a badly mangled login page, but definitely external content instead of just the IE error. (It should go without saying that I'm not logging in at any of these sites through IE!) If I use a direct link to an Amazon product page, though, it loads slowly but completely.

Given that it's not redirecting me to an intercept page, I doubt malware, and I am not contending with a firewall on my home network. Is there any chance Google is actively rejecting traffic from severely-outdated browsers? I thought "unsupported" just meant not putting any effort into keeping apps/sites backwards-compatible with ancient technology, but correct me if I'm wrong!

Thanks for your continued help with this. :)
