More trouble no doubt, but most channels I am on prefer one to simply announce , or have it set that you are afk and when you next speak, should you be allowed that priviledge, it's presumed you are back. Folks often have the program open at work, and it fills up w/ /away /back notices all the time, and fills up the scrollback.. most of the time, if your name is menitioned, and you are not away you will notice it do to the lovely flashing tabs.. and miraculaously appear, or not, should it be someone you prefer not to chatter w/. When my daughter comes in looking for me, someone will tell her I am afk, and for how long... I try to give an estimate via the task I'm performing , so anyone who cares can take a pretty good guess as to when I'll be round and chatting again. OF course, I tend to spend most of my time in tech support type channels, either getting help, or working off my debt to Linus, and all who came after w/ the miserable amount of knowledge I have gained.. But "channel Gods" or occassionally channel "demi-gods" can ge a grumpy lot .. and the aways, and leaving/arrival messages are often unwelcome. So user beware... rather like colours.. people either love them, or hate them... I'm a migrainuese, I detest them as they add little to my conversations w/ people and do aggrivate the headache, as it appears those who do love the colours want to use everyone in every posible combination , lovely, or hideous as they may be.... ( heavy sigh) I know of channels where a 2nd use of the things can get you banned for life, or as long as the main oppers control the channel... pretty close to forever... -- j -- nemo me impune lacessit it's just an afterthought; okay ? : I can see clearly now, the brain is gone... |
