[Knokiisync-users] FASD project: Online survey launched

Dear Open Source developer

I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate.
You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it.

With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development.

[Knokiisync-users] Compilation Prob

Hi folks,

I'm under Debian/Sid
And when I try to ./configure

checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.0.3) (headers and libraries) 
not found. Please check your installation!
For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log.

Here is the tail config.log (don't think it is very useful )

[Knokiisync-users] Project Status

Hi everyone,

as you may have noticed, I haven't updated the project for some time now. 
This is because both my job and my studies absorb my free time like a dry 
sponge. However, I have been able to slip a 15-day xmas holiday to my 
benefit, so expect development to speed up again. There are propably many 
issues to root out before 0.4.0, so people are urged to try the following 
tarball:

so that I can quickly locate any problems. Please remember that this is a 
preprerelease: Please backup your phone and your KDE address book before 
testing!

Hi Daniel,

I'm developing KnokiiSync using KDE 3.1.2 and 3.1.4. From what I see, I 
can only assume that the newer KDE cvs code is to blame (KnokiiSync 0.3.1 
didn't have some features of the 0.3.2, thus it compiled fine)

[Knokiisync-users] 0.3.1 preventing crash

I also had the problem (as reported in a bug) that on reading from the phone 
knokiisync crashed.  By changing the Memory in Use to Phone (only), no crash 
anymore.

[Knokiisync-users] 0.3.1 problems AND version 0.3.2 compilation error

Hi,

Having successfully compiled and run 0.3.1, I ran into the problem:
* trying to sync a KAB entry with anything other than an email address in it 
comes up with a:
	"Writing an entry to the phone failed: Data format is not valid.. There could 
be problems."
dialog, and the entry is never transfered.  Since most of my contacts have 
numbers/addresses, I can't transfer most of my users. What is this error?? 
(My hunch is that it's something to do with spaces, but that's only because I 
noticed that xgnokii removes all spaces before adding entries.)

- I have a 6310i, firmware V5.50
- connected through bluetooth
- gnokii version 0.5.6
- xgnokii works

Hi, you are propably using a new version of libgnokii (> 0.5.3), which ha=
s=20
problems when linked with KnokiiSync, for reasons unknown to me. I=20
reported this to the Gnokii mailing list, and Borbely Zoltan said he=20
fixed it in the cvs. Unfortunately, the cvs code didn'w work for me (it=20
didn't compile), and today's 0.5.6 still has the problem. I will ask=20
again for a resolution, maybe they forgot to put the change in the=20
tarball?

This is a known problem of KDE installation scripts. You need to copy the 
file "format.h" from $KDEBASE/kabc to $KDEDIR/include/kabc, where 
$KDEBASE is the directory of the source of the kdebase package, and 
$KDEDIR is the base directory of your KDE installation.

[Knokiisync-users] Problem

Hi there,

Iam using Suse 8.2 personal these are the problems iam having

Install gnokii-0.5.2 no problem ( ./configure, make, make install )
Install pkgconfig-0.15.0 ( .configure, make, install )
When running ./configure for knokiisync-o.3.1 get the error shown below

*** in your path, or set the PKG_CONFIG environment variable
*** to the full path to pkg-config.
*** Or see http://www.freedesktop.org/software/pkgconfig to get
pkg-config.
configure: error: Library requirements (gnokii >= 0.5.0) not met;
consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your
libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.

Have i done something wrong in installing the gnokii and pkg-config
packages. Iam not an expert still learning.

Any help would be appreciated.

Happens to me too - maybe I should have a look if gnokii works ok with 
"Phone + SIM" (memory type = "MT")

KnokiiSync only needs the formatted name IF the name format is set to 
"Ask". If it is set to something else (like "Surname  Name"), this 
shouldn't happen. I'll investigate when I can (I'm really busy these last 
few days)

Yes. KnokiiSync now stores any overriden entries into a KABC::AddressBook. 
If you do not have any entries overriden, then opening that AddressBook 
fails, thus the error messages (which I can't disable, because it is kde 
code). So I insert the "no need to panic" message.

You're right, it worked that way. 
But why does knokiisync needs the "formatted name" from kaddressbook to send it
correctly to the phone ? Can't it just use the name and surname to build the
complete name (as shown on the phone) using the separator set in knokiisync's
prefs ?

1) Is your phone using "Phone + SIM"?
2) Using kaddressbook, set the formatted name of the contact to "Blondel =20
Alexis" (make sure you have 2 spaces between the names). After doing=20
that, your contact should upload OK. Using your .rc file and exactly the=20
name said, it worked perfectly for me, like it did for all of my entries.

Unfortunately, SF is currently having yet another problem with their shell=
=20
servers, and savannah is refusing my CVS connections, so for the mean=20
time please download a snapshot (with the first issue fixed - check the=20

More info please. Specifically, the complete name of the contact (Surname, 
Name, Additional Name) and your .knokiisyncrc file.

Hummm, not really : knokiisync just exits ($? = 253).
Before exiting it dumps entries like :

knokiisync: ***********************************
knokiisync: Name, Surname
knokiisync: <phonenumber>: bbeb6ZV
knokiisync: ***********************************

When there is at least one entry in the phone, the problem disappear...

The field "Formatted Name" is specified (but not by me, it was set by knokiisync
when I transfered the entry to the phone), it is "Name, Surname" even if I set 
the word separator string to a double space.
Shouldn't knokiisync show the Surname in the Surname column and the Name in the
Name column ?

Once I transfered an entry to the phone (the surname column is then empty, and
the Name column contains "Name, Surname"), if I try to transfer it again (like
if I modified the entry in kaddressbook) then I get the message "A match for
this contact (Surname: <Surname>, Name : <Name>) was not found. Do you want to
add this entry to the phone's address book?" with a Yes or No buttons. If I
click yes then a duplicate entry appears on the phone (still with the surname
column empty (!)).

Have you specified a formatted name for that entry? Right 
click->Details->Formatted Name.

And I have some problems ;)

- If the phone addressbook is empty, it is impossible to transfer anything to
  it.
- When I transfer one entry to the phone, it appears as "Name, Surname" in the
  Name column, and the Surname column is empty (!). I set the "word separator
  string" to "  ".
- Can you add entry to the context menu (when you right click on an phone entry)
  to remove the entry from the phone ?
