LAUNCHING APPLICATIONS BY CHANGING CHANNELS

BASIC FUNCTIONALITY

  • Note that all channel navigation functionality only applies to series 4 or later TiVos that support RPC functionality.
  • When enabled, you can launch an application by tuning to a specific channel on your TiVo's live TV tuner.

ENABLING CHANNEL NAVIGATOR

  • Channel Navigator uses the same channel monitor used by [AutoSkip] to temporarily disable/enable AutoSkip.
  • To enable Channel Navigation for a TiVo, you must turn on File > AutoSkip Service for that TiVo.
  • Channel Navigator channel configuration is part of the App Launcher configuration, and the configured channel for an app is displayed at the end of the app name on the Remote's app launcher. E.g. "streambaby (channel 0-5)" will launch the app "streambaby" when an enabled TiVo is tuned to channel "0-5" (i.e. zero button, skip/"(-)" button, five button).

APP LAUNCHER CONFIGURATION

  • Currently App Launcher configuration is handled through editing a particular file in the kmttg "web" folder
  • Currently this file will be overwritten when a new version of KMTTG is installed, so if you modify it keep a backup copy.
  • The file is rc_apps.json (if deleted, starting KMTTG will generate a minimal default file)
  • This is a JSON-formatted file whose format should be mostly self-explanatory if opened in a plain text editor.
  • Each entry has a name , uri, optional description (not used), optional disabled status to keep an entry without displaying it, and optional channel value for the Channel Navigator.
  • This configuration is used by the Channel Navigator, the Remote App Launcher, and the Web Interface Remote App Launcher.
