IMPORTING SKIP SHARES FOR AUTO SKIP

BASIC FUNCTIONALITY

  • As an alternative to generating your own cut files for [AutoSkip] you have option of importing skip data generated by someone else.
  • In order to do this though there are 2 sets of files needed:
    • A zip file that you must download/obtain from someone else which contains a captions .srt file AND a cut file which is either a comskip .edl file or VideoRedo .Vprj file.
    • A .srt captions file that you must generate yourself for the associated TiVo show you are importing skip data for.

HOW IT WORKS

  • The cut file (.edl comskip file or .Vprj VideoRedo file) contains the commercial segments that somebody else generated for their particular TiVo recording of a show.
  • Your recording of the show cannot use the cut file generated by someone else as is, because your recording length and commercial segments will be different.
  • So the cut file time points generated by someone else need to be adjusted to your particular recording of the show.
  • This is where the .srt captions files come in. The .srt file contains all the captions for your show segments along with timing information for each. It is assumed that the captions text for the show segments will be identical or very similar for your srt file and the external srt file obtained from someone else.
  • For each cut point in the external cut file kmttg will find a nearby caption line in the external srt file.
  • Then kmttg will find the same caption line in the local srt file.
  • The difference in time between these 2 matching captions lines then defines the time offset that needs to be applied to the cut point to adjust it for local use.
  • Thus to get everything working there are 2 sets of files needed as described in the BASIC FUNCTIONALITY section above.

IMPORTING SKIP SHARES

  • First step is you must download/obtain a zip file from the skip data generator which contains a captions .srt file and a cut file which is either a comskip .edl file or a VideoRedo .Vprj file.
  • From a NPL TiVo tab select a show for which you want to import skip data for.
  • Press c keyboard button.
  • If you haven't already generated a local .srt captions file for the show you will be prompted by kmttg to start tasks to do so. If you choose to generate .srt file then you will need to wait until the tasks finish and then press c keyboard button again with show selected.
  • The Skip Share Import dialog will appear.
  • If you already have generated the local .srt file with expected file name and location then the Local srt File field will show the full path to the file. If empty then you will need click on the button and browse for the file.
  • Click on the Skip Share Zip File button to browse for the zip file containing skip data that you downloaded from somebody else.
    • NOTE: If you put this zip file in the same location as your local .srt file and with same file naming conventions then this field will be automatically filled out already so you don't need to browse for it.
  • Optionally turn on the ENABLE DEBUG option if you want to see more detailed debug messages in the kmttg window message.
  • When ready click on the Import button to import data into kmttg AutoSkip table.
  • If successful you should get a message indicating as such, and then you can use File--AutoSkip Table to bring up AutoSkip table and check on the imported entry.

ADDING AUTOSKIP PADDING

  • Since imported cut points may not be 100% correctly adjusted for local playback you may find it useful to specify a padding time in seconds to use around cut points during AutoSkip playback.
  • Consult [config_AutoSkip] for details on setting AutoSkip padding value.
