We should definitely replace in the end the actual chroot mode (kestrel-images --chroot) with a Linux Container (LXC) mode. That way we will be able to allow common users to scale root privileges on the images without any fear. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LXC https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LXC Another interesting idea, is to use LXC to simulate multiple nodes without any complete virtualization (no performance gain, but it can be used in universities to teach parallel programming without the need of a real cluster).
