My wife forgot her master password, so I uninstalled keepass and re-installed it, but when we start it,
it goes directly to the master password sign in. How can we set it up from scratch again?

Press cancel on the Enter Master Key dialog. KeePass will open without a database.
Select 'File>New' from the KeePass menu (or Ctrl+N) and create and save a new database with a name of your choice in your Documents folders (the database is user data). Exit KeePass. If you are using default settings, KeePass will remember the last used database when you restart it and prompt for the Master Key of the new database.

The master password is not contained in KeePass so no amount of un/re-installing will fix it.
KeePass data is contained in a KeePass data file, which is encrypted with your master key. These files usually end with KDB or KDBX.
Data files can be copied / backed up just like any other file on your computer.
cheers, Paul
p.s. you should backup your master password, maybe by writing it down and keeping it somewhere safe, away from the computer.

Got it running again. Thanks for the responses and we WILL secure the master password offline.
