All developers are able to convert their classic apps to store apps and upload them to Windows Store! Just download Desktop app converter and start convert!

Hey developer, would you do this? I wish you will.

I would love to see KeePass in Windows Store. Main benefit, in my opinion, is automatic update, which always annoys me with KeePass. But also there is seamless installing process - no more downloading exe, opening, clicking next etc, you can simply put link to the Store in your website and that's it. Simple uninstall too no bloating file system and registry.

And packing it is quite simple too, I once just for fun packed Chrome with no problems (of cource, I didn't put it in the Store :) Here is a link with detailed description, and some more user-friendly one.

Automatic update could be added to KeePass, but as a security application it is considered that leaving updates to the user is the best method.
Uninstall is already simple, I see no advantage there.

    cheers, Paul

I would also like to have KeePass in the Microsoft Store for Win10. I can donate a Microsoft Store subscribtion key if you do not already have one.

Main reason would be the ease of installation and updates. As a security application I want to have the latest updates install automatically, but I don't want to have any extra services running in the background on my PCs. The update dialog bothers me quite a lot (not just in KeePass). Android apps do also have automatic updates, including KeePass2Android. Having the app in Windows Store would also make it work on Windows 10 S.

KeePass is simple to install and update, no advantage there.
KeePass only has improvements and additional features, so you don't need to update it.
The update does not run in the background, it runs once when KeePass loads.
You can use one of the store apps, like ModernKeePass, KeePassWin etc.

    cheers, Paul

This might be a good idea anyway, if nothing else, for those versions of Windows which only allow apps from the app store.

Since a while, I'm preparing KeePass 2.x to be published in the Microsoft Store. Various things need to be changed for this (for example, translations and plugins need to be stored outside the application directory). Most of these things should be ready when KeePass 2.38 is released; afterwards I'll maybe also make it available via the Store.

    Best regards,
    Dominik

I have used the desktop app converter myself on keepass and just sideloaded the app. Works like a charm for the past 6 months, obviously no auto updates on side loaded app, but it actually feels faster than the win32 version, not sure why. Just like the idea that no win32 app can access my system on the wire, just think it's safer.

Any update on this please? :(

I was playing a bit with it, but there isn't anything substantial yet.

    Best regards,

I would be happy to see it in Windows Store as well. It would be much more comfortable for me with auto updates and Windows Store will have a great application, not garbage Store is full of now...

You do not need to auto update KeePass. V2.20 is just as secure as V2.39, even though it'snearly 6 years old.

Yep, it'll be nice to have auto-updates that are applied automatically.

I think this would be great. An additional benefit would be that it enables installs on Windows 10 in S mode as is the default on Surface Laptop and Surface Go. I'd be willing to pay for this as I've already done with Paint.NET.

Would also reduce the work I have to do to keep keepass updated on my family members computers. ;)

You don't need to update KeePass unless you want the new features (again).

You're forgetting bug fixes and security fixes.

Uh, there are bugfixes in almost every new release of keepass.

          What is your point?

That's the big selling point with the Windows Store - that program patches are automatically applied as soon as they're released, without needing user intervention. (The idea that programs can actually be bug free apparently doesn't enter into people's minds these days.)

I'm old fashioned - I don't trust any program that's capable of rewriting itself without any notice to the user - but unfortunately, that's what people have come to expect from their computer systems.

I reviewed Dominik's update history, and yes, most of the entries there do have a subsection labeled "Bugfixes", but most of those are minor adjustments to the UI behavior. The last "showstopper" level bugfix that I can find was in 2013, when a rare set of circumstances was found to cause the program to crash, and was fixed with the release of KeePass 2.24.

There have been improvements in the process memory protection, code optimizations, the new KDBX4 file format, ChaCha20, Argon2, encryption & hashing is more secure. I would upgrade.
