    Hello,
My windows 7 machine was having issues (not letting me plug anything into the USB ports), so I took it to a computer repair place. They said there was a big software problem or virus, and they put a different hard drive in the computer. So now I am manually putting the folders/files I need back on the computer (from an external hard drive he gave me). However, there was no .kdb or .kdbx file anywhere. I still have the old internal hard drive, and there is none of this file type on this hard drive either! I've read as many articles and discussions as I can and we can't find a file with that extension no matter how we try. Ideas? Thanks!

The only way to find your database is to look in the KeePass config file for recently used files.

Navigate to \users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\KeePass on the old disk.
Look for a file called KeePass.config.xml.
Open the file in whatever you want.
Look for the section <MostRecentlyUsed> and then <Path>.
The files you opened recently are listed, e.g. ......\tmp\WUC.kdbx.
The ..\\ means up one level relative to the config file. The folder names are obviously the names that are not the database.

    cheers, Paul

p.s. Replacing the hard drive is the strangest method of virus removal I've seen.
