    Fedtsten - 2017-12-22

    Hi,

I love this application and have used it for a long time, but there are two minor things that frustrate me a little almost every day:

    1. I can't show/hide the password of an entry using a keyboard shortcut once I've opened the entry. There's a toggle shortcut for showing ALL passwords in the listview, but could we maybe have the same CTRL+H shortcut do the same when a single password window is opened and has focus?
    2. I have a long master password and occasionally mistype parts of it. It would be nice if this dialog supported the CTRL+BACKSPACE standard that so many Windows applications also support, which erases the previous word/clears the field. This would make starting over on entering the password much faster.

    Thanks for a great tool!

    1. Why do you need to open the entry / see the password? There are plenty of ways to use a password without opening an entry.
    2. Try Shift Home.

Thanks for your feedback, Paul. However:

    1. Often I use Keepass for password lookup only. Passwords that need to be entered on a completely separate device, for example. For these, I'd like to view the particular password briefly, and only that single one.
    2. I'm aware of that combination, but it only selects the field. You still have to hit DEL or BACKSPACE after that, and now we're up to two separate keypresses to simply clear a field. Also, I'm in the habit of using CTRL+BACKSPACE first before I can stop myself, since it works pretty much anywhere else but here - and then groan as that merely produces an extra character in this context. It would be great if this shortcut was implemented.

      1. You can use the "enhanced entry view" plugin to show only individual entries (or even indivitual fields in the entry) without showing all entries in the list. I'm not sure whether there is a keyboard shortcut for this.
      2. You don't need to hit DEL or BACKSPACE after SHIFT+HOME...just start typing the new password.

The KPEnhancedEntryView plugin allows allows the user to view the hidden data fields in the currently selected record (including the password field) by clicking an eyeball icon to the right of the hidden field in the KPEEV pane. It also allows the user to toggle this view with the F9 key, but that toggles the view of all the hidden fields in the record. (IIRC, Alex built the plugin this way because he couldn't come up with a easily understandable way for the user to specify which field should be revealed by an F9 keypress, so the plugin just reveals all of them in response.)

Opening entries to read information is bad work practise because you may accidentally edit something or forget to close the entry and have KeePass remain unlocked. KPEEV is the best way to view without editing.

    cheers, Paul

The plugin doesn't sound helpful in my particular case (especially since I'd need to use the mouse to reveal just one field, and I'm looking to use only the keyboard), but thanks for the suggestion.
Risking an edit is not a worry, as I always close the window immediately after with the ESC key, and would reject any prompt to save the changes. I also lock the entire tool as soon as I've checked the password.

SHIFT+HOME is a standard, but so is CTRL+BACKSPACE, and it is also quicker to hit (at least for me).

I realize that not all people use the tool the way I do, but my requests would not inconvenience other users, whereas the current state of affairs does inconvenience me. Hoping it can be implemented. :-)

    Merry XMas to all.
