    Hi,
when upgrading keepass to a new release I always loose my saved custom password profiles.

    a) is there any way to avoid this?
    b) is there any way to save the profiles somewhere to be able to restore them after upgrade?

    Regards
    Karl-Heinz

Custom profiles are stored in the KeePass config file. When you upgrade you either delete the config file or install to a new location.

Paul is describing how to create your problem.

During a normal KeePass upgrade, the existing config file is not overwritten or deleted, and your custom password profiles will be preserved.

    Thanks for clarifying that.

    Hi all,
I am very much sorry, but so far, with every upgrade, I lost the password profiles stored before.
I thought so far I would have made an error on how-to store the profile and created them from scratch again.
Anyhow, I will trace this. If it happens again, I will report it here.

    By the way:

I would like to encourage you to extract the password generation and its possibilities to customize by own profile and create an separate smartphone app for this.
I have looked around a little bit for password generation apps. There are several. But all with a similar, not very much customizable password generation scheme.
To have this functionality of keepass in a separate app would outclass them all.

As far as I know, the password generation function is currently not part of the keepass app (and should get a separate one).

    Regards
    Karl-Heinz

How do you perform the upgrade? You should not normally delete any files or move the KeePass program directory during an upgrade.

KeePass is a windows only product and is unlikely to be ported in whole or part to other platforms by the developer. However, many third party developers have ported KeePass to other platforms (e.g. phones).

If you are interested in making a a derivative product based on KeePass, the license terms are posted at http://keepass.info/help/v2/license.html

    Hi,
I am no developer so I am not able to port the product.
But I use KeePass on Android and expected it to come from your source directly.

Naturally, I do not delete any files during upgrade.

    Regards
    Karl-Heinz

If the issue is with KeePass2Android you need to ask in that forum.

One thing that seems not to get across to visitors here is that "KeePass" (that is, the original KeePass program that this site is devoted to) only runs on PCs with Windows (and various flavors of Unix, Macintosh, etc. with the help of the mono package). Anything purporting to run on cell phones, tablets, etc. is not KeePass, but rather a different product created by other people (using KeePass only as a starting point), and help for those products would be best found elsewhere.

It's not that we don't want to provide help to users of those other programs, but for the most part, the people who would be best equipped to help with those programs simply don't hang out here.
