thanks for mentioning nagios! i was looking for quite some time into 
diffrent monitoring solutions, but non of them seemed to be the tool i 
was looking for. from browsing through the web documentation of nagios 
it seems to be what i was looking for :)

i think i will follow your advice and follow your architecture proposal 
to use nagios for the monitoring and only use keepalived for the vrrp part.
