Would it be possible to define and call variables within articles of the knowledgebase - i.e if you had a product which was resold as a different name - you could setup two separately branded knowledgebase’s, with a single database backend - and then substitute the variable(product name) based on the site the user was visiting. Does this seem plausible?

I think it is a great idea!
There are lots of ways articles could be enhanced with a global var system.
It would be nice to have an area in the system setings where global variables can be created/edited/deleted, etc.
