I have to say, it seems like a great idea to build a version of Linux just for ham radio, but it's extremely difficult to get any of the software working. I've got an Icom IC-7300, with PTRX-7300 panadaptor board and an RSPdx SDR radio, and almost none of the software on the Andy's Ham Shack distro seems to work. Windows 10 I used to be able to run FLDigi, WSJT-X, SDRPlay, etc. I'd rather run Linux than Windows in the shack, but it's very frustrating.... DE WS1O

HI Brian,
First of all, thanks for writing and I appreciate the "Big Thank you". :-)
I'm truly sorry to hear that you're having difficulties with the software. I
used to have an IC-7300 (now IC-7610) and I know that it works well with
Fldigi, WSJTX, Gridtracker, etc. Without more details regarding the specific
issue, I don't know how I can be more helpful.
Regarding SDR software, it is quite possible that the specific code needed for
your device is not part of AHRL. If I tried to include all of the code for
every SDR program and device, I fear that it would consume a LOT of space. I
picked what I thought were reasonable defaults.
That said, I'm happy to make additions to the software collection by request,
and I've done it many times before. My criterion is that the software must
have a Free Software compatible license.
In another thread, if you can post a specific issue, and the error you're
encountering, it is quite probably that the community can help you, and I
certainly will if I can.
Lastly, if you will be attending Hamvention in Xenia, OH in May 2023, I'll be
there and it would be great to chat with you and anybody else who is interested
in AHRL. My talk is currently scheduled for Friday morning at 9:15 AM in Room
2 (subject to change).
I appreciate your response, Andy, and all the work you've put into this project. Curating and cobbling together all the installed and configured files to get something like this up and running in a somewhat "turnkey" state is a lot of work.
The problem, as I see it, is that there can be so many hardware and driver conflicts that make it tough to just click "install" and then expect everything to work seamlessly. (Which port? What baud rate? Is it CAT? CI-V? RTS? DTS? WTF?) For example I can "kinda" get CubicSDR to work with my SDRPlay RSPdx, but it doesn't seem to want to tune around the dial like it shows in the various videos guys have made, nor does tuning via the mouse on the software make the radio "follow along". And I have had a heck of a time getting the AM and FM broadcast bands to work at all, but they work fine on the radio alone.
I know it's gotta be some secret magical settings somewhere, but man, is it hard to fumble around and try everything! Takes a lot of sifting through Google search results to find "Problem Solved" answers posted in the various forums and sites, too..if you're lucky! I guess you just have to be patient...and stubborn!
