Wow, that's a pretty neat resource, and a new one on me, I'll have a play later on :) In terms of your query tho.... A normal script would be somerhing like open fully.qual.host.name:210 base DATABASENAME1 DATABASENAME2 DATABASENAME3 elements f format grs-1 find @attrset bib-1 @attr 1=4 Title @attr gils 1=2042 Place show 1+10 --- Explanation open fully.qual.host.name:210 - Open a connection base DATABASENAME1 DATABASENAME2 DATABASENAME3 - Specify which database we want to search elements f - What kind of records we want back ("f"ull rather than "b"rief in this case) format grs-1 - What format we want those full records back in (grs-1 is the most common choice for gils targets, other ones to try are "sutrs", "xml" and the bib formats such as "usmarc") find @attrset bib-1 @and @attr 1=4 Title @attr gils 1=2042 Place - The prefix query.. The archives should contain an description of a prefix query but see below for a bit of an explanation show 1+10 - Show 10 records starting from position 1 About Prefix Queries Roughly: PrefixQuery ::= @attrset DEFAULT_ATTRSET Query Query ::= AttrsPlusTerm | Boolean Boolean ::= Op Query Query Op ::= @and | @or | @not AttrsPlusTerm ::= AttrDef+ term AttrDef ::= @attr [NON-DEFAULT ATTRSET] ATTRTYPE=ATTRVAL term ::= "QUOTED MULTI WORD STRING" | Word | 9999(number) So a simple title search might be find @attrset bib-1 @attr 1=4 "The Title" You can use additional attributes to specify things like truncation, relation ( =, > <, fully enclosed (for spatial search), etc) find @attrset bib-1 @attr 1=4 @attr 5=1 "The Title With Right Trunc" Or you can use boolean operators find @attrset bib-1 @or @or @attr 1=4 TitleA @attr 1=4 TitleB @attr 1=4 TitleC to Search for (TitleA or TitleB) or TitleC Hope that helps a little. If you are getting error messages back or diagnostics from the server, post them to me privately, or to the list, or IM me with the details (Yahoo: ianibbo, MSN ian...@k-...) and I'll try and help sort them out. If you have specific queries, we can probably help you phrase them too, until you get the hang of the prefix notation. Hope that helps a little. Cheers, Ian.
