How about just distributing a zip and/or tar file?  Tell the user to
unpack it where they want jython "installed" and set an environment
variable for the startup scripts to use (or modify the scripts so they
know where jython is installed).

This is simplest for you to do, requires no new tools, and I prefer it
because I don't like installers when I don't know what they are doing
to my system.
