Simplest seems to be to check them in where they are expected. If we don't want to carry the old material, it must surely be because we don't think it valuable enough to keep accessible, but if we do I don't see how it is better to have it accessible, just in a surprising place. Browsing it, I think it would be a shame to lose some of it entirely. I'm a terrible hoarder, though. There's some project history here, and I've sometimes found it helpful to know what people were thinking concurrent with some otherwise puzzling change, or see how it was before. I'd say the information should (eventually) be in a different form, none of it giving the appearance of being our home page. But the news roll at the bottom of an old home page is just our old (archived) news, isn't it? I think a sidebar etc. is part of the furniture that makes a page look like a home page, so is a thing I'd remove sooner than fix.
