From the jnios readme: "This is a early release of the software, so don't be surprised if you find an error. jnios.cpp have at one time been compile on linux and solaris, but it have only tested in Windows. " Others who posted to this list recently have confirmed that it does not at present work on linux. I hope you can get it working, it's a great package. -----Original Message----- From: Shari Arman [mailto:sh...@no...] Sent: Thursday, October 18, 2001 6:58 AM To: Jython Subject: [Jython-users] Running a python script from java - help! One thing that might be worth checking is whether the tryJythonSample class actually exists in a file called "tryJythonSample.py". The matching classname/filename is required here, and a difference in those names makes a NPE like you are seeing. Folks: How can I control the way jython invokes the Java vm? In particular, I'd like it to invoke java as follows: java -Xmx1024m because I'm creating huge vectors and I'm getting out of memory exceptions. Thanks in advance, ---Rob Welch |

Unless you used the jythonc --package (-p) option to specify the tryJythonSample package, you should just use the following import: import tryJythonSample It's easy to forget Jython's 'extra' module layer (package/module/class a= s opposed to package/class). Jythonc rightly gives up when it encounters unknown switches. > I'm presuming java. In other words, you just add a -J before any java compiler options. Try: jythonc -J -deprecation tryJythonSample.py -robert |

I don't have a problem with any of this unless I'm running it on the web server. I am running jythonc-compiled files because the web host does not have jython installed. I am doing the conversion through CGI because both the applet and the PyGTK program are GPL, and I can't distribute jython.jar with GPL'd code, because I don't believe it's compatible with the GPL. I figure that I can code the PyGTK program to attach to the website and automate the conversion process remotely, and since I'm not distributing the jython.jar, everything is kosher. But if I try to add another class file into the 'invalid' .jar file using WinZip, or if I try to delete a file from the .jar using WinZip, I get the following error log: """ Action: Add (and replace) files Include subfolders: no Save full path: no Include system and hidden files: yes Warning: extended local header not found for javax/infobus/ArrayAccess.class Error: Unsupported or invalid Zip file structure (E:\java\n_lib\bisonInfra.jar) """ This lets me think that maybe Sun is not fully at fault here. If it would be of some help, I could burn the .jar on CD and send it to you. Please let me know. (It is 16.6 MB so my mail system would reject it). Best wishes, Oti. |

Sorry if I was not clear but what I was saying is that if you try to execute jython code using an the interpreter and not going the way of freezing it with jythonc, the intepreter (not you) will try/need to creates classloaders and in order to do that it will need the corresponding permission. So the point is that in any case you will have to deal with the problem of granting permissions to your applet. regards. ----- Original Message ----- From: Sells, Fred <fr...@ad...> To: 'Samuele Pedroni' <pe...@in...>; Paul Giotta <pau...@so...>; <jyt...@li...>; Sells, Fred <fr...@ad...> Sent: Monday, October 15, 2001 4:27 PM Subject: RE: [Jython-users] error imbedding Jython into java applet > I'm confused on the need to define my own class loader :( > > I'm willing to accept that I must, but what class loader do I create. Its support for applets mainly goes through the jythonc way, The code needs changes for doing cleanly what you're trying but see below. > I'm researching permissions and signing; although I would prefer to not go > that way. Unless you can go the jythonc way, you will need to grant permissions to your applet anyway because of the cited classloader creation problem. regards. |

I've embedded jython into a java 1.3 applet which works as an appliction but gives me a file access error on cachdir/packages as an applet. see earlier thread: error embedding Jython into java applet I'm researching permissions and signing; although I would prefer to not go that way. can jython work without cachedir or can it use a URL back to the server. tia Fred |

FB> Barry, would you be able to find some copies of these files: | jython-faqw.tgz | jython-moin.tgz Yep, I've got daily copies of them dating back to Aug 4. We back them up nightly and rotate our tapes weekly, with about a 7 week tape cycle. Also, this is on a big disk so I don't routinely wipe them. wget is nice in that it doesn't overwrite yesterday's copy, it simply appends the next serial number to the file name. The jython-faqw.tgz file from Oct 8 is 47825 bytes while Oct 9's 32166. Similarly jython-moin.tgz from Oct 8 is 78210 while Oct 9's is 2760, so I'm guessing whatever bad thing happened, happened sometime b/w the suckover of the 8th's and 9th's backup. I certainly don't mind the occasional snafu, and so far it hasn't been a problem. The Oct 8 copy of both tarballs now reside in ftp://ftp.python.org:pub/jython Please let me know if there's anything else you need. Cheers, -Barry |

[Samuele Pedroni] >oops, another rm -rf with root perms > >the last time this happend SF had been attacked. > >Finn said he put in place a new backup mechanims. Yeah, that was a way of getting the backup off-site and onto Pythonlabs' backup tapes. It seems we need them now. Barry, would you be able to find some copies of these files: jython-faqw.tgz jython-moin.tgz I'm not entirely sure when the backup should be from, but on oct. 9, SourceForge added a note about how each project have to do their own backups. I guess that the backup have to be from sometime before oct. 9 to have any usefull data on it. The compined size of the two files should be bigger then 34Kb. >We should wait for his intervention, at least I have >missed his explanation about the details >and could not figure them out quickly >logging in to SF. Well, the backup only creates the .tgz files at http://www.jython.org/backups Once in a while, Barry then copies them to tape. There is no support for multiple backups or generations in the simple copy scheme that I use. The next day the cron job is executed, the previous backup is overridden. If the problem of "rm -fr" is something that will happen again and again, we have to improve our backup mechanism. I certainly can't bug Barry every time. regards, finn |

oops, another rm -rf with root perms the last time this happend SF had been attacked. Finn said he put in place a new backup mechanims. We should wait for his intervention, at least I have missed his explanation about the details and could not figure them out quickly logging in to SF.
