Dan, I'm not sure you ever received a response to your kind offer. Right now, development is slow, as the current committers are swamped with other commitments (I may just be speaking for myself, however). The best way to start contributing is to find a bug that you can submit a small patch for--that minimizes the risk of spending a lot of time developing to the wrong requirements, and gives you a taste of the code. Also, stay active on this list--that way, when we get our heads above water, we'll remember to keep in touch. On another note, there is a project at junitext.org that claims to include a GUI runner--you may want to check into that.
