Taking your questions in order...

(1) Yes, the Layout maintains the vertex positions itself; the Graph doesn't
know anything about vertex (or edge) positions.

(2) Correct, as long as the views use separate layouts.

(3) If the Transformers are shared among Renderers (or refer to the same backing
data), then changes made to one Transformer will apply to all Renderers to which
they are applied, yes.  If you have separate Transformers for each Renderer
that don't share backing data, then changes in the backing data will not be
mirrored.
