Hi, This one seems to be of type "float32". It is not very common tiff type and I accept that core OpenJUMP readers cannot open it because OJ itself cannot do anything sensible with such an image. I do not know about Sextante and if it is also lacking support fot float32 images or if there is some bug in how OJ is using Sextante. >From my experience I would really suggest to learn also GDAL and add into your open source GIS toolbox. Or actually you have it already because QGIS is using. I guess that by converting that SRTM tiff into int32 type with gdal_translate or with QGIS you could do the further processing with OJ and Sextante. -Jukka Rahkonen- ________________________________ Praveen Sinha wrote: > Hi, Attachment is the SRTM download TIFF file. I am unable to open it in OJ. But the file opened in QGIS where I generated contour upon. OJ throws error: - All factories fail for the operation "fileload". I appreciate OJ & Sextante. So I don't want to switch to other software. Please. At least I used Sextantes contouring functions on (pseudo) DEMs to create home range polygons for animal movement data (with the HoRAE toolbox for OJ). However, when I prepared recently maps with hillshade and color ramps for TileMill (i.e. for our web maps) I used gdal as well and followed those instructions: http://mapbox.com/tilemill/docs/guides/terrain-data/ except that I adjusted the color ramp for our area. ...In case Jukka hasn't seen it yet - though I bet ;) cheers, stefan Am 29.11.12 07:04, schrieb Rahkonen Jukka: > Sorry, I forgot to say that by "that tiff file" I was meaning the file I downloaded from > http://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/SRT-ZIP/SRTM_V41/SRTM_Data_GeoTiff/srtm_40_01.zip > > It may or may not be similar to what Praveen Sinha was meaning. > > -Jukka- > >> -----Alkuperäinen viesti----- >> Lähettäjä: Rahkonen Jukka [mailto:Juk...@mm...<UrlBlockedError.aspx>] >> Lähetetty: 29. marraskuuta 2012 11:54 >> Vastaanottaja: 'OpenJump develop and use' >> Aihe: Re: [JPP-Devel] problems with old image loader >> >> Hi, >> >> That tiff file is a 16-bit grayscale image.
