Because SF tells me, that there's no way to get help as a user. Not very user-friendly, methinks... BTW: I'm working on a midifile-export for scene-libs atm. I need it for the sequencer in my arranger, so I can setup my K4 from there. Don't know, if anyone else uses a similar concept to setup his/her keyboards. So I might just post a patch, that anyone, who is interested, could apply to the sources. Ciao, Andreas |

The only thing that sounds worrying is the loss of ticket stats. Does this potentially mean a loss of bug reports/patches? Or is it much more mundane, like a loss of "bug reports per month"? Hi there, I totally missed this but as a project admin I have the possibility to upgrade the Sourceforge project for JSynthLib from Classic to Allura which means new features like a blog and wiki. But there is a downside: Some data can't be upgraded: <quote> Will not be upgraded These items will not be moved to your upgraded project: Project Help Wanted SCM stats, Forum stats, Ticket stats & Traffic stats Trac will no longer integrate with SVN </quote> Here is a list of the stuff that will be updated and additional infos regarding the upgrade process: <quote> Will be upgraded At this time, we are able to update the following aspects of your project: Meta-data (name, description, trove categories, etc) Members and permissions Project News Forums Hosted Applications and Project Web Virtual Host configuration and MySQL databases Git, Subversion, Mercurial, Bazaar and CVS repositories Mailing Lists Tracker data Project Donations* Note that the URLs used to access your code repositories will change, and an email will be sent to all project developers with the new URLs after the upgrade is complete. Once you click Upgrade, the upgrade will be scheduled and will begin shortly. Any changes made to your project while the upgrade is in progress may not be reflected in the upgraded project. *If you have donations enabled, there will be a Donate link that will allow donations. However, it will be a direct link to the PayPal donation page, and individual donors will no longer be tracked or displayed. Prior to upgrading, you can obtain a copy of your project's data as an XML file by clicking on the project name, selecting Project Admin » Features, then selecting XML Export. </quote> Does anyone need the items that will not be upgraded or is for other reasons biased against an update? So someone's managed to get hold of Brian Klock via facebook: "I no longer have control of the jsynthlib.org domain name. Its now registered by someone in Ukraine. Last year my webhost went suddenly out of business and took my backups with them, so I didn't bother renewing the domain when it came up." Unfortunate. So I think we need to do the following: 1) make a new website probably using the sourceforge hosting 2) release version 0.21 of jsynthlib There is a question mark about jsynthlib on mac os x lion, but noone's turned up who's able to reproduce it. I think I made a backup of jsynthlib.org when jsynthlib.org first went dodgy so that could be a starting point if I can find what I did with it! frankie |

Hi! After some problems, I finally managed to subscribe to the list (sf wouldn't let me subscribe with my old account, so I had to create a new one). I'm a software dev from Germany and use JSynthLib to create (and manage) sounds for my Kawai K4, that I export then as midi files, so I can load them then into the sequencer of my Roland E-50. So I have a question on the K4 driver. In synthdrivers/KawaiK4/KawaiK4SingleDriver.java , the method public Patch createNewPatch() creates a patch, that has DCA MOD and DCF MOD values set to -50 as I see it? So when you play this sound with a normal velocity, you don't hear anything? Wouldn't it be better to set such values to 0, so you get some standard sine patch, that actually creates a sound, when you play it? Ciao, Andreas |

Hi, This is a forwarded message by Andreas Rückert from the JSynthLib group on Facebook: Andreas Rückert <https://www.facebook.com/andreas.ruckert.796> 22 januari 11:39 Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I'd like to import a K4 dump (the factory patches, to be precise). It contains single patches, multi patches, drums and effects. JSynthLib only finds the multi patches, but nothing else. Methinks, that IPatch[] createPatches(byte[] sysex) in JSynthLib/core/DriverUtil.java is the problem. It tries to find a driver for the first sysex and returns the patches created by the driver. But I think it should check, if the driver actually parsed _all_ the sysex data and if not, repeat the process until _all_ the sysex data were parsed. I cannot join the JSynthLib dev mailing list and the homepage shows some medical articles(?), so I don't know how to ask the developers. That's why I posted here... Greetings, Peter Btw, Brian Klock also joined our group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/JSynthLib/ |

More on the patch auditioning bug... It seems to be more than that. Not only does "Send" not work (for sending a single patch to the ESQ-1 edit buffer), but also a "Store" doesn't work either (to actually store a patch in a regular patch memory). Since I can successfully do sysex dumps of whole banks in either direction, that means there's no Midi communication problem, and it appears the ESQ-1 driver is completely broken with regard to any sending of single patches. It's sending only though, because I *can* receive a single patch and store it in a library. So here's a matrix of what works and doesn't. I can only test the ESQ-1 driver, since that's the only synth I have with JSynthLib support: Bank send: OK Bank receive: OK Patch send: broken Patch receive: OK Patch audition: broken And the additional oddity that it puts up a warning dialog when you try to send a single patch saying you'll have to acknowledge afterward from the ESQ-1 front panel. I have Emagic SoundDiver for Windows, and it doesn't require acknowledgement from the ESQ-1 after sending a patch. Somewhat moot since no patch ever actually arrives, but still strange that the JSynthLib driver expects the ESQ-1 will want that. Anyway, it seems to be more of a single-patch send bug rather than just an auditioning bug. -- + Brent A. More on the ESQ-1 patch auditioning bug... Looks like there is a bug, but also I was wrong about how the program is supposed to work. I was wrong in that JSynthLib requires you to use the "Send" option, which is conveniently bound to Ctrl-T so you don't have to keep using the mouse every time you want to audition a patch, to actually send a patch to the ESQ-1 edit buffer. Without doing that, it doesn't send anything, and you will end up hearing whatever patch was already loaded. Then again, there *is* a bug. I've verified by watching with the Midi monitor that nothing is ever sent to the ESQ-1 when you use the Send option. So you can't really audition patches after all. By the way, if there's anyone still out there in JSynthLib-world, let us all know. I think I can hear an echo in here. -- + Brent A. Busby + "We've all heard that a million monkeys + Sr. UNIX Systems Admin + banging on a million typewriters will + University of Chicago + eventually reproduce the entire works of + James Franck Institute + Shakespeare. I'm currently trying to use JSynthLib to do single patch auditioning to organize thousands of Ensoniq ESQ-1 patches contained in bank sysex dumps into banks that are useful for me. I'm on Linux, and I have four hardware Midi in/out port pairs. Three are provided on an Edirol UM-3EX connected by USB, and another in/out port pair provided on the breakout box of an RME Hammerfall Multiface II. All the hardware i/o's work, and I can do bank dump and receive over any of them with the ESQ-1. This proves there's no communication problem in hardware or software. It works with single patches or whole banks. Also, I have a Yamaha SY99 connected to a different hardware port than the ESQ-1, setup in JSynthLib as a master controller. This also works (mostly, see below), because when I play the SY99, its Midi output is being echoed by the program to the port the ESQ-1 is on, and it plays the ESQ-1. Here's the problem: The documentation says... The Master Controller Port determines which MIDI port JSynthLib will watch for Notes being played. If notes are played (for example from a MIDI keyboard or MIDI sequencer) on this port, JSynthLib will echo them to whatever Synthesizer you are currently working with. (Either by having an editor open in the foreground or having a library open in the foreground and having a patch selected). This allows you more controlling auditioning patches than just using the "play" command. The "either by having an editor open in the forground or having a library open in the foreground and having a patch selected" part strongly implies that the patch you're auditioning when you play your master keyboard will be the patch you've done all this selecting to in the program...except...unless I'm doing something wrong, it isn't. It plays whatever patch you've selected on the synthesizer's own control panel. When you choose a new patch in JSynthLib, it *still* plays whatever patch you've selected on the control panel. Selecting patches in JSynthLib has no effect on what your master keyboard is playing, and there's no evidence from the ESQ-1's screen that it heard upstream Midi tell it to do anything with sysex at all. Oddly, right-clicking on a patch and clicking "Play", which is supposed to send whatever patch you just selected to an edit buffer on the synth and play a note on it for a configurable period of time, works! It does exactly what master keyboard audition is supposed to let you do but doesn't. That means the program has the facility for this...just not in all the places you need it. (Also, the fact that it works there but not from master keyboard strongly implies it's a bug, and not just me doing something bad.) Of course you can't really audition patches without being able to really play them on a keyboard, so this is needed to make it useful for more than just storing sysex files. I'm willing to help with debugging this. I don't know Java, but I do know Perl, so I may be able to get the general idea of some things, which may be useful since I've seen that JSynthLib is really starved for developers. Also, I happen to have a well-known but now defunct Windows-based editor/librarian program with a Midi monitor feature, so if you need to know the hex codes that accomplish certain things, I can probably capture those. (Surely it's not a copyright violation to capture raw Midi traffic...) -- + Brent A. Hi, > What's the problem with MacOS 10.7 and Java? library support it seems: ---snip--- Java itself works just fine on OS X. Minecraft is a Java application, after all. The problem is that some libraries were removed from Snow Leopard that implement MIDI support. You have to now install these separately from Mandolane. They do point out it is no longer required for Lion so perhaps these added MIDI support back in? I haven't tried Java on MIDI in Lion yet actually. ---snip--- => http://midibox.org/forums/topic/16688-ctrlr-based-editor-for-mbfm/page__view__findpost__p__146872 Joachim |

Not to sound too negative, but the JSynthLib codebase is a complete mess. Broken encapsulation, a lack of anything approaching a genuine API for implementing a synth driver and - most fundamentally - the object model for patches, banks and so forth is wrong. It's been a useful learning exercise to poke through the code, but I'm at the point where I feel it would be best to take the lessons learnt and start from scratch. This is not something I have the time to do, so like the MIDIBox guy, I'm taking a closing look at alternatives that will hopefully have a better foundation for just adding a new synth driver than JSynthLib currently does. There is a note in the README file about the need for a MIDI provider on Mac OS X, but I wonder if this is still the case: https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#releasenotes/CrossPlatform/JavaSnowLeopardUpdate1LeopardUpdate6RN/ResolvedIssues/ResolvedIssues.html See the Java Sound section that suggests a third party MIDI provider is no longer necessary. Judging by various posts on support forums, it looks like third party providers became problematic after these releases of the Java runtime. Regards, Chris |

Well there is a release candidate ready though we need to get in touch with the guy who controls the website so we can update it before we put the new release out. I personally have several things on my todo list when I get some time - performance editor for TX81z, a driver for the emu proteus 2000 family etc. Adding support for your device seems like a good idea to me! frankie On 28/02/12 10:42, bjb...@de... wrote: > Hi guys, > > What's the current state of affairs with JSynthLib? Hi guys, What's the current state of affairs with JSynthLib? I see the main website is down but I remember hearing talk of refactoring and a surge of activity last year. Is anyone working on things now? I've just bought a Prophet 08 which seems to come with a decent MIDI spec in the manual so I thought I might roll my sleeves up and have a go at creating a driver.
