Re-engineer client side to be compatible with Commons VFS?

Issues:
* Will asynchronous I/O still work?
* How stable is Commons VFS? It's in the sandbox...
* What is the overhead of getting this into Commons?
Or can we just create an add-on?

* Also issue of file permissions - how does VFS handle these?
* VFS gives a shell-like interface with cp, pwd, mv
commands etc. Could be useful as a client-side tool.
