No

My web host has just upgraded to PHP 4.4.0 and my
JPSpan application has started giving a SERVER_ERROR
"Only variables should be assigned by reference while
calling <function-name>".
It was working fine with PHP4.3.11 and works well with
PHP5.0.2 at my local setup.
So, Can this be a bug in JPSPan?

Reproducible: Same problem here after upgrading to PHP-4.4
I think this deserves more priority than 5.

Normally PHP only spits out this message when PHP.ini is
trimmed for error_reporting = E_NOTICE. It tells the
programmer (or user, which is useless in a production
system) that he SHOULD reference only variables (a=5) and
    not functions or objects, like:
    some_function(&$my_other_function), when $my_other_function
contains a function and not a variable.

If you Google a bit, there are over 200,000 sites with this
notice. Mambo for example also references functions and
classes the way JPspan does. It is not a JPSpan error, but
rather a PHP note to encourage clean PHP code.

Yes, I know the reason for the error and the problem is in
JPSpan code. I solved it a long back. It was somewhere in
the Serialization part. But since I got a better library to
use for AJAX I have stopped using JPSpan. Also the project
is no more active so no point in using it for development.
