That's very strange but we will look at it - apparently the file is not being parsed properly or was simply and oversite =( Since you're experiencing it for the sidebar, it's more than likely a configuration issue - your PHP installation may not be parsing the <?= identifier, but in that case I would assume you would have many issues with this and other packages. We always develop code using the <?= print directive, but that may be a bad decision for portability. Maybe you can lend an opinion.

Regarding the upgrade system - we are aware that is not functioning and have plans to upgrade the entire system. Since there was no documentation on how that system worked, and it had long since been unavailable from the original opensef website, we are going to have to rebuild it from scratch unless we can get some input.
