I believe it is time for a 3.8 release.

According to the  the latest commit to the joe cvs dates from 2008-11-23. The latest release, 3.7, seems to be from 2008-11-03. So there are some commits that haven't been released yet, e.g. the fix in  which causes a SIGSEGV bug tracked for  and  and maybe other distros as well. The  lists six more fixes since the 3.6 release marker.

I suggest that, unless some serious work on the code base is imminent, someone powerful enough should simply grab the sources as they are, call them version 3.8 and package them as a released version. That way, those latest bug fixes can be relied upon accros distros.

If you have serious doubts as to the stability of the current CVS sources, then either they should be addressed properly, or some kind of branch containing only bug fixes considered safe could be used for the 3.8 release. On the other hand, I get the impression that the  in the CVS repository ist intended as just such a stable branch. So I would hope that this is ready for release right now.

I had asked for a 3.8 release almost two months ago in a  to the , but got no reaction there. Seeing as there is quite a large amount of spam on that list, I'm not sure how useful it is. Therefore I'll try again here in the forum. If that fails as well, I'll try to contact the  directly.
