* improved addressing for the Grapevine system,
* fix to a problem with certain NCE EPROM versions,
* ability to dim lights attached via X10 systems,

JMRI: Defending FOSS against legal attacks

This news item describes some recent activity in JMRI's legal struggle to defend the free & open-source nature of it's software, and provides pointers to more information. This is an important case, because we're defending against an attack on some of the basic ways (copyrights and published code) that open-source software communities protect their work from misuse.

JMRI (Java Model Railroad Interface) is a successful project to create software for model railroads. It is hosted on SourceForge.net and has large user and developer communities.

JMRI 1.7.5 test version is available

Version 1.7.5 was created as a fast follow-up to some bugs uncovered in early testing of test version 1.7.4. It includes version 1.7.4's bug fixes and new features including additional support for sound decoders, support for Oak Tree Systems boards and the Digitrax PR2 programmer, and other great stuff. JMRI test version 1.5.6 has been released

JMRI test version 1.5.6 has been released for Windows, Linux and MacOS X and Classic users. JMRI is a library and set of programs for model railroaders; it includes the well-known DecoderPro application for configuring decoders in locomotives.

JMRI/DecoderPro production version 1.4 is available

DecoderPro is the most widely used & powerful available for configuring DCC decoders. It works on Macintosh, Linux and Windows computers, and can talk to most common DCC systems with an available computer connection.

And it's free.

In addition to DecoderPro, JMRI contains PanelPro, an application for creating and using control panels for your layout, plus screen-resident throttles, turnout controls, and tools for configuring many different pieces of layout electronics.... read more
