Thanks Ken and James,
I agree, I believe the user tried to acquire a TMCC loco through the LocoNet connection. He didn't say, but if the ID happened to be one of his locoNet devices that certainly would have made trouble. I passed this latest info to the user, but he is reluctant to do any further testing. He wants to get more familiar with his signals and sensors for now.
Thanks,PeteC

Okay. I finally got the download to work. So many adds on the page and some had large Download buttons. Just have to remember to ignore all the crap and it downloaded. I installed the latest 4.1.2 and it started and ran just fine.
I have not had to set the preferences in a long time. I just keep using the old file. Here is what I remember.
TMCC has nothing to set. NADA
CMRI has to have all the SMINIs defined and the addresses and the baud rate.
Powerline I think has to have the baud rate set and the type, Insteon in my case.
On my iPhones wi throttle I can go to the insert that has TURNOUTS and ROUTES. when I select those it shows the CMRI designations and I can control the them there. I never use that because I have a dual monitor on the Mac and the entire track plan is there with all kinds of buttons and lights for control. All of my turnouts have Z Stuff DZ2500 switch machines so if I am following the train with the iPhone throttle I can press the button on the switch machine to throw locally . When I am at the Mac I can use the mouse to throw them.
Lionel does have a SW for switch and ACC for accessory and RTE for route and TR for Track Power and ENG for engine button on the supplied throttle. If you are using the lionel switch controller you could send the command over the TMCC system but I don’t think we ever coded that.
Having the CMRI CTxxx stuff show up in the window on withrottle is cute but only about 20 % of my CT’s are actually switches, The reset control all kinds of other stuff. Makes for a very long list.
All the above uses the original TMCC system. I have not tried Legacy yet but am getting real close. It should work just the same.

Pete C, That’s what I’m thinking, we display no options when TMCC is the connection. For James, his other two systems have no ‘default’ option either. CMRI and Insteon have no throttles etc… And that thought matches what Bob J said about some things missing in the TMCC. But I think we’ve now clarified what should be there, only the throttles and I think command station (turnouts)?? James, You are already on 4.0, so that’s close enough for now. I think we will have a set of fixes soon (give us a few days) which will give the right features when someone has other ‘normal’ systems. I think the original user issue was they also had LocoNet for turnouts and signals but wanted the TMCC for the throttles. The way the code stands right now, it is passing the throttles to the LocoNet connection. But as said (for that user, not you James) if they try switching the order of the connections, then the old default trick should work and it would have the TMCC as primary and the LocoNet as secondary. So that’s back to Pete C to pass on to his contact. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Teamwww.jmri.orgwww.fingerlakeslivesteamers.orgwww.cnymod.comwww.syracusemodelrr.org

What is the version that you have working? Also what is the order of the tabs for connections?
By "The TMCC connection is totally dumb." do you mean there are no default settings chosen at all for TMCC?
Thanks,Pete C.

JMRI cannot program TMCC locomotives. The programming must be done with the TMCC hand held throttle. There is nothing to read back since communications is totally one way.
Also I just tried to download the latest version of JMRI. Can’t do it, All kinds of crap comes up. Wanting to install DVIX and YSM something. I just quit everything. If this is our new download system then it looks like I will never update JMRI again. You give me one click and it better download one file and put it on my desktop. I am not going to be installing a bunch of crap extensions to Safari or anything else.

James, I couldn’t recall if you were on this list or just the users. Glad to hear from you. To the original issue, if the user switches the order of the connections in the preferences, it may change what gets connected to which system. Also a simple test of trying with just the TMCC system to see that it works right. As Bob noted, yes the TMCC is missing the right parts for the individual preference ‘defaults’ for connections. So as a reminder, the different selections of ‘defaults’ are things like ‘Throttles, Command Station, Service Programmer, etc.’ so the quick question is which of those options make sense for the TMCC connection To my memory the ‘Throttle, Command Station’ are definite items, but does the TMCC do both or which for service mode and ops mode programmers?? Does it also support consists?? That’s the details that Bob needs the reminder of. Granted digging in the code would show what is supported by the code but being reminded what it ‘should’ support is quicker. Then it can offer to accept the flag for the different ‘default’. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Teamwww.jmri.orgwww.fingerlakeslivesteamers.orgwww.cnymod.comwww.syracusemodelrr.org

Yes it does. Use it all the time. I entered the locomotives as the NMRA generic decoder. Put in a description and the TMCC ID number and I used the locomotive number as a description. I am running on a Macintosh so I used a Keyspan USB to serial converter. Then pick TMCC and for the layout connection pick that USB converter ( the xxx.cu.xxx version ) Tithe Lionel TMCC base station has fixed serial and baud rates so nothing to set there. Cable is simple. Tie 23 and 3 together at both ends and to each other. 5 is the common.
Start up the withrottle server.
I am using iPhones with the wi throttle app. Use it all the time. Works just fine.
Contact me on this list if you have any problems.
I have 3 layout connections, all using Keyspan USB to serial converters, One is the TMCC , the other is CMRI, and the last is Powerline for Insteon devices.

There is a user who does a lot with the TMCC interface. And his system has some other stuff too. I’ll have to back check on that, but I’m 90%+ that the throttle/Wi-Fi works fine with it. But what you say (no preferences) says I may have missed the right updates for the change to support those preferences (connection stuff). TMCC should show as a command station etc.… But since we’ve supported TMCC without directly having the hardware, I don’t know for sure. Can anyone verify that a Lionel TMCC locomotive can be run from a JMRI or Wi-Throttle?

I do notice that a Lionel TMCC connection does not display the Preferences Defaults functions. When combined with a LocoNet connection, all Default functions are assigned to LocoNet. An overseas user has problems with this setup. Any advice?Pete c.
