I don't think it did anything automatically either. I used the feature to
say I had put something in for the next build (and reminder of what to add
to the release notes) and then after it was released (and original or other
user confirmed) I would close it out.
Tabs with no content aren't usuall shown. (There's a preferences setting ot override this)
this was set to pending a long time ago, but didn't close automatically.
I don't think SF.net closes "pending" automatically; it's just a manually-set status value.
