I am working on adding support for surfaces into Jmol. The work is at an early stage, and it will take some time (months) to complete. Good news -- I am quite pleased with the rendering quality of the initial= tests. Not-so-good news -- I am somewhat concerned about performance and memory consumption. I suspected that this would be a problem, but I am now facin= g it directly. Since Chime is the baseline for comparison ... I need to get a better handle on Chime's surface generation performance, memory footprint, and rendering performance. Q: Does anyone have any metrics/measurments for this type of data? Q: How big a molecule can one reasonbly manipulate in Chime with the Surface turned on? Miguel |
