I'm converting a suite of Chime tutorials to Jmol for a CD to accompany=20= a textbook. I need to give the publishers the "design specs" for the=20 tutorials, and what I have found so far is not as detailed as what I=20 need. I have not had to gather design specs before, so I apologize if I=20= am asking some naive questions. At the Jmol site I find: Free, open-source software licensed under the GNU Lesser General=20 Public License =E2=80=A2 Applet, Application, and Systems Integration = Component =E2=97=A6 The JmolApplet is a web browser applet that can = be integrated=20 into web pages. It is ideal for development of web-based courseware=20 and web-accessible chemical databases. The JmolApplet provides an=20 upgrade path for users of the Chime plug-in. =E2=97=A6 The Jmol application is a standalone Java = application that runs=20 on the desktop. =E2=97=A6 The JmolViewer can be integrated as a component = into other Java=20 applications. =E2=80=A2 Cross-platform =E2=97=A6 Windows =E2=97=A6 Mac OS X =E2=97=A6 Linux/Unix =E2=80=A2 Supports all major web browsers =E2=97=A6 Internet Explorer (Win32) =E2=97=A6 Mozilla/Firefox (Win32, OSX, *nix) =E2=97=A6 Safari (Mac OS X) =E2=97=A6 Opera 7.5.4 (Win32 only) =E2=80=A2 High-performance 3D rendering with no hardware = requirements =09 I do not understand what Win32 means. I gather from Google that it is a=20= server? I was hoping to see details regarding WinXP, Win2000, Win 98,=20 Internet Explorer version 5.x, etc. etc. Does Win32 encompass the more=20= recent Win systems? Also, what about different versions of the=20 browsers? Is there somewhere I can find more detailed information? What=20= I am trying to put together would look more like this: Windows 98 Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x, Netscape 4.7x, Netscape 7.x, Mozilla=20 1.x, Firefox 1.0, CompuServe 7, AOL 8, and Opera 7.11 Windows 2000 Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x, Netscape 7.x, Mozilla 1.x, Firefox=20 1.0, CompuServe 7, AOL 8, and Opera 7.11 Windows XP Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0, Netscape 7.x, Mozilla 1.x, Firefox=20 1.0, CompuServe 7, AOL 8, and Opera 7.11 Of course, these are not the Jmol specs, and I need them for the other=20= OSs as well, not just WIndows- just an example the type of detail I=20 need for the different operating systems... BTW, does Jmol run on=20 "Solaris"? Finally, when an author uses Jmol.js, if a user's system does not have=20= the appropriate Java VM, is the user always directed to the Sun website=20= as appropriate, to download it? Frieda= |
