I reported this on the Debian bug tracking system too, and here is the link: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=502383

I am not sure what this means, but it doesn't look good. I came back
to my computer and saw the following in a Gnome terminal window.

I followed up to the debian bug. This looks like memory corruption where the metapage structures are being allocated. This could be caused by a bug in jfs, but it may also be a bug about anywhere else in the kernel or kernel modules. We may learn more if the problem recurs.
