[jflex-users] find the number of times the word "apple" appears in a text file.

New to jFlex,
I wish to write certain user code but i am stuck.

I wish to find the number of times the word "apple" appears in a text file... and anything beside apple.
How can i write it in the usercode?
I tried the following but it fails...

appleWord= [apple]
otherWord = [^apple]

both failed to compile. Please guide. Thanks
