Hi there, I've been meaning to get back to this sooner or later. I've salvaged what I could put together in an afternoon and am pleased to annouce Jellybean-Engine 0.20, with a very slushy version number. It's tested, the pieces all fit together. It doesn't do much besides serve files fairly naively, but the pieces all fit together. The important thing is, it's alive again, mostly because I want to use it in a couple of weeks. http://wgz.org/chromatic/jellybean/Jellybean-Engine-0.20.tar.gz Enjoy, -- c |

Hi everyone, I've finally decided to push 0.13 out the door. It's been finished and ready to go for a couple of weeks, but I can't log into SourceForge's web site to do a file release there. My sources tell me it could be a little while yet, so we'll do it the hard way instead of waiting still longer. This means that the new source is only available from my personal site: http://wgz.org/chromatic/jellybean.html Shouldn't be a big problem. What's new in this version: - updated AdminCore to make writing different administrative interfaces convenient - improved installer - improved state-saving mechanism (much nicer) - server can now multiplex and listen on different ports - added Request Objects to help provide different types of access (HTML only for now) - much improved error reporting - migrated existing Objects and Containers to Request Objects - improved documentation - several small bugfixes This is a recommended upgrade. It's really really big. If we hadn't done this, we wouldn't be able to do what we're about to start doing. I'll have more on that soon, on the dev list. :) Good work on this one, everyone who helped (especially those who complained about stuff and extra especially those who fixed broken stuff). See ya, -- chromatic |

Hi everyone, As the dev list regulars are aware, Jellybean version 0.12 is ready. Besides a bunch of little bugfixes that should make life easier for Windows users, this release adds the Wiki we've been developing for the past few weeks. Hopefully this will be useful to actual regular users. In addition, it's a neat enough thing that we can attract more developers who will take the time to build their own applications on top of things. The release notes and changelog are available at the following link: http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=30862 Additionally, with the help of Briac, I've made up a Jellybean t-shirt at Cafepress. It's available at cost + $1, and any proceeds will go towards rewarding the top Jellybean contributors. (That doesn't include me, I think I've been rewarded enough with the help of these talented folks!) Thanks to everyone who's downloaded, tested, promoted, coded, and reported errors. It really makes a difference. -- Bill Gates has 24 bathrooms, 6 kitchens, and is now remodeling to add a fifth bedroom. Is this a Service Pack to improve the Homeowner Experience? |

Hi everyone, I've made the Jellybean + Wiki code available as a test release. Bang on it... It works for me, out of the box, but I know how these things often get weird on other machines. It sets up basic file serving, documentation, and the Wiki. There's a bit of extra information in the README file, and I've put a copy of the init.pl in conf/backup, just in case you get in real trouble. Some people have had trouble with the installer, so that's one place to look. Keep the archive around so you can unpack it again -- remember, you can't run the installer again after you've already run it, so you'll have to edit files manually or run it from a fresh unpack. Stuff's available at: http://wgz.org/chromatic/jellybean_wiki.tar.gz http://wgz.org/chromatic/jellybean_wiki.zip Feel free to pass this along with the understanding it's a test release, and we'll probably fix a handful of minor issues before a real release. Oh, you will need to install the MLDBM module from the CPAN, and it's handy to have Storable and Template Toolkit 2, but those aren't required. It's all in the README file, anyway. Please report any bugs to jel...@li..., and we'll help get them resolved. I appreciate your help, -- chromatic |

hi everyone, 0.11 is out the door. I polished up the documentation somewhat, but things otherwise haven't changed much since the prerelease. It's available from http://wgz.org/chromatic/jellybean.html Have a good time, -- chromatic |

hi all, I have packaged and jlp has approved Jellybean 0.11, which is coming out today, just as we said it would. It is lacking a bit in the normal release polish, mostly because three or four little bugs always turn up when we play with it. So have at it! I added two new things today. First, Jellybean::TemplateContainer now uses a Persist library object to store non-mangler template definitions. That's a big win. Second, I added a Persist-capable object based on Data::Dumper. Storable is better, and it's better yet to use a real database or DBM file, but we're going for out-of-the-box-minimal-module ease of use here. So that's also a big win. Anyway, I've made a ZIP file and a tarball, available from: http://wgz.org/chromatic/jellybean/jellybean-0.11.tar.gz http://wgz.org/chromatic/jellybean/jellybean-0_11.zip I would like to make the official announcement this weekend, perhaps Saturday or Sunday night. (That's a lot of work, so I'm putting it off for a while.) Have the appropriate amount of candy-related fun, -- chromatic |

Hi, Jellybean 0.09a is out. It is everything Jellybean 0.09 should have been -- and more. For your information, we've bundled just about everything up and the 0.09 release is on its way to sites very shortly. Expect it tonight. New stuff in this release includes a complete rewrite of Beads.pm and the introduction of a Beanpacks system. This not only tracks changes to the main tree of Containers and Objects between sessions, but it allows people to create and to install bundles of Containers and Objects. It tracks dependencies and handles installation details. It's not completely perfect, as there is the possiblity that dependencies might have a chronological element, but there are ways around that. Please note that with this release, jlp (jpa...@er...) will be fielding questions and concerns for a couple of weeks as I travel around again. Don't forget, for the next release we want to clean everything up and get a working Content Management System out the door in Good Shape. Let's say it'll be ready in the first part of September. Spread the news; this release sucks less than any of the previous ones. Thanks for playing along, -- chromatic |

It cures nosebleeds, can leap over toy buildings in a single bound, and removes stubborn chocolate spots from the face of a four-year old... Jellybean 0.08 has escaped, leaving a trail of $_, $object->, and eval( qq||;); statements in its wake. Be sure to check out the shiny new installer, as well as the impressive CHANGELOG that belies all of the blood and sweat our families have been through, listening to us brag. Big things are in the works for versions 0.09 and the amazing 0.10 releases: - Object Bundle support - Better run-time object editing - <insert killer-option here> - <insert random bugfixes, optimizations, and feel-good app of the year awards here> Grab the tarball or give us a jingle at http://sourceforge.net/projects/jellybean Your teeth will thank you. Hi, Jellybean 0.04 is available for public consumption. I have folded in kevin's patches and have updated some of the documentation. This version is much improved in HTTP handling, and I wanted to get it out there for testing and tweaking before we dive into the guts of Objects and serving things that way. Hi, I've just put Jellybean 0.03 in CVS and updated the tarball at Sourceforge and on the Jellybean home page. The big highlight in this version is that I took out the HoHoH tree. It mapped the filesystem, package, and module hierarchies into URIs. I've replaced it by adding Container objects and allowing them to contain other Containers. This frees the URIs to be created and arranged logically, independent of the file hierarchy. -- "It takes a community to make a revolution." -- Bruce Perens |
