First of all, you can find here: http://jdip.sourceforge.net/docs/variant.html the basic instruction on variant creation. The process is quite simple. The most complicated part of the process is the SVG file. It contains the map described with the "path" elements. To create a map I use The Gimp (it runs both under Windows and Linux). Here are some instruction: 1) Pick an image of the map you want to use. 2) Made the colour of adjacent region different and eliminate the black line between region. 3) Use the "path" tool to make The Gimp identify each region in the map. 4) Name each region with the diplomacy map short name. 5) Export the paths (NB: for maps with a lot of sectors, I usually divide the process between land and sea sectors and, sometimes, between continents for land sectors). 6) You can't the paths made by The Gimp as they are. To modify the output of The Gimp I made a couple of macro in MS Word (I don't know how to translate the macro into OpenOffice.org Writer). I can send you a .bas file containing this macros. So, I hope that this can help you to start. If you need some help, try to post a request in the mailing list. If I have some time, I surely try to help you. -- Stefano |
